What is that all about ~ haven't heard or read anything about it.

(8,445 posts)The woman talks about a fire. They could hear their animals being burned alive, but the firetrucks couldn't get to the fire because of the wall. Their animals were on their land, but the fence divided their farm. They had to use a code and go through a gate to access their property on the other side of the wall.
There was also some whining by a golf course owner who was going to lose 15 holes of his course. Such sad stories.

(28,817 posts)Mexico was going to pay for it AND give us the land for it? Or, maybe, the wall would follow the exact border line?
The one says.. (add southern accent) "I hate to say it, but I'll get a lawyer".. Get them, spend the rest of your life litigating Federal Lawyers. 93 original cases still in the system.
Epitome of uninformed voter...

(22,034 posts)I'm not really concerned about the golf course, though I enjoy a round of golf as much as anyone.
However, the man quoted in the video says that if the US government completes the fence that stops on either side of this course, it will affect more than 200 residences.
Perhaps you could reconsider your sarcasm in light of those families' homes being impacted by this stupid wall proposed by our galatically stupid president.
In any event, I do get a rush of schadenfreude whenever I see Trump's supporters being screwed by their great leader!
Rorey
(8,445 posts)Of course I care about the innocent people who didn't vote for him.
The way it sounds, American citizens who own property that is on the other side of the wall still have access to it. The guy at the beginning part of the video mentioned an access code he used to get to his property.
This reminds me of the segment I saw on either MSNBC or CNN about coal miner families who voted for 45 and are now concerned about losing their health care under the ACA. There was even a woman whose husband died from black lung disease. I find it hard to have sympathy for voters who didn't educate themselves. Hillary Clinton had a plan for them. The orange idiot had empty promises. He told lie after lie after lie, but they continued to believe him.
As for the golf course owner, if he wasn't a 45 supporter (I don't remember), I definitely sympathy with him for having his business destroyed. It has nothing to do with golf, and I apologize if I made it sound as if I was making fun of golf. I would never do that.
It sucks when someone has their life destroyed by the government, but if they voted for the politicians who are now destroying them, I find it hard to care much about them.

(11,986 posts)Not a single Trump voter has (yet) been forced to give up property for the wall.
And judging by the comments, many (if not most) people are not watching the video (or not getting it) and they are thinking that the headline is true. And so begins stupid fake internet rumors.
As an aside, the video also had a horrible story about the death of animals that, had I known, I would not have wanted to watch.

(1,129 posts)The first part of the story was not about Trumptopian Karma....
The first family featured had to give up their land 10 years ago when the existing border fence was originally constructed....
Their story represents the actual challenges faced by those who have already experienced having their land divided.....
& The loss of animal life, in a fire which firefighters could not access due to the locked border gate, is an example of the unforeseen risks that have now come to light .
The banner across the screen referenced the possibility that Trump voters along the border may one day find themselves trapped on the outside of a fence/wall & locked gate that was built at the request of their candidate of choice
Now clearly, the 2nd lady in the clip was stupid enough to vote for trump and therefore deserves to be held accountable, for her active role in empowering her candidate of choice, by suffering whatever consequences that may occur as a result...

I maintain a large patch of milkweed just for the monarch. They are an amazing creature. It takes 4 generations for them to migrate north and one generation to migrate back to Mexico.
An environmental impact study should be part of the process of building anything. I would assume there are many migrating animals that would be affected.

(14,173 posts)It is curious to me how that older wall was decided on, and the projections for a new wall as well. Has not the actual border between Mexico and the US been already decided a long time ago? If so it seems like either these land owners actually held Mexican property, knowingly or inknowingly, if when they build a wall the government has planned to weave its wall to the north of their property. Especially since constructing odd loopy lines in the wall doesn't seem to be a factor if you look at other areas of that wall. I don't get that.

(14,570 posts)you showed that you've long since abrogated your responsibility as a citizen of this republic to use your votes wisely.
What does this mean?
Well...don't just get your news from hate-talk radio and Fox news for a start. Go on places like the Hill, NYT, and CNN. Go on NPR. Dig for the reality.
READ SOME BOOKS!
If something makes you feel uncomfortable, ask yourself why. Think things through.
READ SOME BOOKS! AND SOME REPUTABLE MAGAZINES/JOURNALS. FIND OUT ABOUT STUFF.
I'm sorry, very sorry you've had to sell your home. I'm sorry for that.
But let's get that 'voting' thing right, shall we? DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU VOTE, BECAUSE ANYONE WHO DID THEIR HOMEWORK DID NOT VOTE FOR AN AMORAL IGNORAMUS LIKE TRUMP.

(470 posts)My other half lives in Brownsville. It is one of the poorest counties in America and heavily Hispanic and Democrat.
Here's the deal with this...
This has been happening for over a decade down there. Luckily, despite my other half's family owning a farm she isn't impacted by this however many area. People's property has literally been cut off and some are actually on the other side of the fence, in no mans land.
It impacts people of all political ideology and honestly, it's very sad to see this happen as there are many families involved.
The golf course in the video, River Bend has massive financial trouble. It's also pretty much a done deal that the course will cease to exist at this point and those plans that were shows drawn up? That was done so a few years back. Here's a great article from 2008 on it all
It just breaks my heart to see this happen down there. People down there have been through so much with poverty...

(4,441 posts)This wall section was built 10 years ago. This had nothing to do with Trump.
While a strong case can be made about people voting against their interests, these people and this story has nothing to do with that. I do not recall there being a mention of who these people voted for either.
