(4,066 posts)I happen to be in recovery. For those who don't know what that means it means I have an addiction problem. One I deal with by being very realistic.
The first step to recovery is admitting there is a problem. Clearly, what Bernie says is true. We lost the Senate, The House, The White House (and by losing that, now SCOTUS). There are more GOP governors and state houses.
We'd better freaking admit there is a problem and make some changes.
As for the specific candidate who is anti-choice. Well, Bernie is right there too. Do you want to wait for a perfect Democrat while getting a Republican elected instead? We can't have perfect Democrats in every office. This is a good case in point where it's pretty clear the what the choice is. It just isn't possible and if we are going to come back we have to pick and choose in some battles.
Flame away in disagreement if you so desire.

continue to cheat yet we don't make it a priority to combat it.
The first thing Perez should have done was to appoint a standing anti-vote corruption committee and fund raise for professional legal help, investigative help and volunteers to continually expose them loudly to the media and watch-dog the republican cheaters so they won't have the advantage they've had for the last several election cycles.
They've won only one legitimate presidential raise since Ike. Nixon committed treason in the '68 election, Reagan did the same in '80, W Bush in '00 and '04, trump in '16.
Daddy Bush is the only one win they've had without obvious cheating.
And of course they do the same in state and local races.
That is what we're up against and have to make a priority of exposing and stopping.
The unity tour concept is good but the anti-vote corruption effort has to be parallel and just as important. 2018 is fast approaching and we hear nothing about stopping their cheating after the biggest and most obvious cheating effort yet.

(15,637 posts)But it's apparently not (as far as resource allocation goes anyway). Why not?
Beats me, but we should all be beating the doors down demanding that the Party focus on correcting corrupt election laws/regulations, systems, processes, interference and results. Democracy depends on this!
Why the hell isn't this getting more overt attention by the Party?! WTF is going on?
Instead we seem to put a priority on fighting amongst ourselves. Is that what our leaders and Party officials prefer?

(9,067 posts)and has been for a long time.
As others have said - the Democrats outnumber the repubs and have already won most of the issue battles.
The problem is that the GOP has openly cheated for the last two decades:
gerrymandering
registration restrictions
hacking DREs and tabulators
help from the Russians (and God only knows who else)
illegal contributions
media control
poll station manipulations
ID laws
No popular movement can really win - despite a majority and favorable platform - until the voting system is fixed!!
The GOP made a decision to go after the election system, and they have all the money in the world to do it. They have successfully put LOSERS in office over and over since the 90s.
Rallies don't matter, and polls don't matter. What counts are the reported votes - and the US does not have a verifiable system. Gore, Kerry, and Hillary were the real winners!! That goes for many, many down ticket races too. More people already vote Democratic than stupid everyday.
When Bernie gets it right, then please post his video. Meanwhile, some can "feel good" about his message, but it won't change a thing.

(9,067 posts)Bernie, and all the other politicians who have an audience, have to ADMIT that elections are stolen. They are avoiding the obvious. Case in point: Trump and the Russians!!! Don't wait for the FBI or CNN to make an announcement - if there is evidence of collusion, then put it out there NOW! No "leaks" or "committee hearing". Come on Bernie - SAY IT! Not Rachael and a drip, drip, drip...who cares if it's a Constitutional crisis (and pretending that Gore-Bush wasn't?)...Bernie KNOWS it, so jump in there and say it!
Many Democrats (or independents like Bernie) don't want to stand up and say to the world...the US has a system where the winner doesn't take office!!
The example are numerous, but a verifiable system should be the number one priority of Democratic candidates (or all Americans for that matter).
Everything else will take care of itself.
If people can march for women, science, pipelines, and against Wall Street - that's cool. Nothing wrong with it, BUT we need election reform. Popular uprisings will continue to lose out to the minority until the system is fixed.
-Bernie could hold a national tour for verifiable elections. At the least, he could include it in every speech.
-The DNC could declare a "no concession" election strategy, to monitor and contest EVERY race
-Blue states could set an example and insist on countable paper ballots with recounts
-legal groups (ACLU, CREW, etc. could get a lot more active in the courts) and insist on recount integrity
You get the idea.

(8,636 posts)I can add, so are a lot of people, of all ages. I attended an "Our Revolution" meeting here in Kansas City.
Shhh!!! These are mostly people who worked in the Bernie Sanders campaign and still support the issues he stood for.
I can also add: If you attended one of the March for Science events around the country, you almost certainly ran into Bernie people. I saw a lot of people I remembered from the campaign.

(1,103 posts)the primaries and which the M$M failed to carry for most of that time. It was necessary to go to Bernietv2016 to get to hear any of his speeches. Red state repubs lie to their constituents along with Fox and so can't be totally blamed for how they end up voting. Bernie has been consistent and forthright about what he believes for years. His message rings true for most Americans and it's absolutely great that he is doing the 50-state thing. There are plenty of reasons why he is so popular today.
