Pam Spaulding happened upon this character named Steven Anderson, who preaches from the pulpit at Faithful Word Baptist Church in Tempe, Arizona. I compiled some of the more, ah, interesting bits from the sermons I surveyed into the 20-minute audio above.



As you can hear, this is pure eliminationism with a Biblical veneer. First he demands that all gays and lesbians face the death penalty:

The same God who instituted the death penalty for murders is the same god who instituted the death penalty for rapists and for homosexuals, sodomites and queers!

That's what it was instituted for, okay? That's God, he hasn't changed. Oh, God doesn't feel that way in the New Testament ... God never "felt" anything about it, he commanded it and said they should be taken out and killed.



His key motif, inspired by one of King David's imprecatory prayers against his enemies, is to compare Obama to a slug or snail and wishing he could pour salt on him:

Yeah, God appointed him to destroy this country for the wickedness of the United States of America. God appointed him because that's what our country has turned into. That's who we deserve as a president.

But let me tell you something: I don't love Barack Obama. I don't respect Barack Obama. I don't obey Barack Obama. And I'd like Barack Obama to melt like a snail tonight. Because he needs to recompense, he needs to reap what he's sown.

So let me get this straight (pun intended) -- you preach the death penalty for gays and lesbians, and you wish for Obama to die as would a slug coated in salt.

It really sounds to me like your Lord and Saviour is trying to impart a lesson upon you of some sort. You know, like maybe having to do with the "Golden Rule" we're all supposed to live by. Or that "judge not lest ye be judged" thing.
Maybe in your next video you could apologize to those whom you have cast your own judgment upon?

Because this shit and worse happens to poor and brown skinned people all of the time. And as usual, it's not a problem until it happens to people who look like this you. Let me ask you, young man: how did you vote in the last election? Did you vote for and support sheriff arpaio? What about gov. brewer? How about the parishioners you lead? Do you stand in your pulpit every sunday and vilify anyone who doesn't think like you do?

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say you voted for a "law and order" ticket, to strip those who do not look like you of their rights within your state. The fact that you're aghast that upon not obeying the police, you got a beat down, says a lot about the "america" you live in. You need some more minority friends, s0n--they'd have told you to put your hands on your steering wheel and comply with a "yes, sir, no, sir". Catching them in a lie is besides the point; the dog is beside the point: the fact is, they asked you to follow an instruction and you refused--had you just done what they asked, like they said, you'd have been on your way. OF course they're going to go into "ramp this up and wreck his day" mode when you choose to challenge their authority.

The place to fight against that kind of thing happening to ALL Americans is in the voting booth--by voting for people who do not believe that giving up their rights and liberty is a fair or necessary exchange for being safe, not at a police checkpoint in the middle of the night.

Yes, this shit happens every. single. day. in the US of A to someone to who does not look like you because of the fear that those who willingly give up their liberties and rights base their voting choices upon--and incredible as it seems, for far, far less than what you did. Yes, it IS a huge problem.

When it comes to public employees, the only ones I have no problem cutting back on is cops. I fully support everyone else because they are serving a public good. But not armed thugs hiding behind shields. Their motto is supposed to be "to serve and protect", not "to abuse and demean..".

I can't tell from the video whether the poor s.o.b. understands that his treatment was no different than the treatment non-whites suffer daily. He might only be enraged because the "this" that is happening in America shockingly -- in his case -- seems to include white people.

The truly depressing thing here is that he was actually doing no more than insisting on his rights as an American -- and the cops clearly didn't give a damn. All they saw was some wise guy giving them a hard time and refusing to do what they told him to do. The cops acted like gang members -- which is apparently how they see themselves -- not public servants hired and trained to protect the citizenry. These guys laugh at the notion of the Constitution, of "we, the people." And I'm sure they found it hysterical that this white guy thought he could mouth off to them without getting beat up. Dear Pastor: when a gang banger tells you to empty your pockets, you had better empty your pockets. And these uniformed gang bangers almost certainly hassle and rough up people on a regular basis. Your misfortune was being the token white person they chose to victimize on that particular day.

Pastor, if you see the light and begin preaching the truth of what you just experienced to your congregation, reminding them that Christ preached that all men and women are his brothers and sisters, and urging them to open their hearts, you may yet end up in paradise. Maybe you could participate in or even sponsor marches for civil rights, embracing your brothers and sisters of other races and ethnicity? Think about it.

On the other hand, if you remain blind after your experience, you can go to hell.
