My family is from WV but not from coal mining country. Yes the miners made big money in an area with low costs of living but each man working in the mines supports an extended family. Mom, because Dad died early - from working in the mines. His wife and kids of course and often her sisters and their kids and his sisters and their kids. If the breadwinner dies (as thy sadly often did) no more revenue source. Mind you the extended families were often on assistance also.

That was in the good old days. Now less than 1/2 of "miners" are union so they make a lot less. As the one gentleman pointed out they can clear a mountain with less than a basketball team. No expensive mine supports and ventilation etc.

I will never forget Bob Murray's press conference after the tragedy at his mine. He ordered the Sheriff around like he owned him. Because he did. That's how it works in coal mining and one industry towns.

BTW Blankenship and the people at Massey are pieces of shit.

but maybe a few coal miners will see this and realize they've been duped by a couple of repuglicans, as usual.
