Kate Raworth: Dismantling free market mythology

This is the full Majority Report YouTube show from this afternoon. I'm posting this because everyone ought to listen to the interview that starts off the show. Economist Kate Raworth highlights and discusses the many flaws with our current economic model. I was personally moved by this article because of my own personal beliefs regarding economics and politics as a whole. I have a rather Socialistic approach to economics because I deeply value compassion, altruism and empathy. I was always frustrated by the worship of "free markets" and other capitalist institutions by people on the libertarian-right. I could go on for hours but I was just thrilled that someone could articulate my personal analysis of economics so elegantly. Please listen to the interview and why not listen to the rest of the show?

Everything they do, essentially tries to create an economy in which life for the vast majority of the REAL economy is to be made very difficult - while letting monopolies and the well-connected (this means you, Ivanka) hog all the benefits.

Works great for the powerful. Not so much for those trampled underfoot.

About a hundred years ago, many girls/women were tricked into killing themselves by painting glowing dials onto watches. They were trained to use their lips to form a point on the brushes in between strokes. They were lied to about the dangers. The book shows clearly how some supervisors and co-owners wanted to do the right thing but were silenced/thwarted/kicked out/impoverished by their sociopathic peers. Some male employees were also victimized. The sociopathic owners of these factories enriched themselves and used every rotten trick imaginable to slander the girls and anyone else who got in their way. The girls/women died slowly and horribly, with terrible pain and grotesque disfigurements. Their families were financially ruined by the medical expenses.

Republicans are trying to take us back to this laissez-faire capitalism. We must not go back. Even the states-rights issue is a trap It was used back then to deny rights to the victims of sociopathic industrialists who built huge fortunes on schemes that ruined many other people's lives.
