Trump basically represents what Hoover did in 1968 - minus the tutu.

I have been bitterly disappointed in my lifetime (b. 1971), with precious few men reaching even close to the heights and ideals that RFK seemed to embody in speeches in 1968. I never saw him alive, only idealized and on film, but the speech he gave there is so much greater than 45 is capable of in 1,000 lifetimes that it makes my heart burn with sorrow and envy for an alternative timeline, where MLK and RFK were never gunned down and America went in an entirely different direction.

If it is true that we collectively get the politicians we deserve, then we as a nation have fallen so very far from where we could have gone under men like RFK and Barrack Obama (minus the treasonous congress and McConnell, Boehner and Ryan).

I will shed more than a single tear for the nation tonight, and many more in the nights and years to come...

A Kennedy-Carter presidency might have accomplished a lot more - and with fewer mistakes - than Carter actually did (even with Mondale's sage counsel).

But Robert Kennedy was very much a man in a hurry, and one can't blame him for his sense of urgency given the situation in 1968.

Of course, he could have still won in '68 - iIf Mary Hoover's hepatitis had just done him in a few years earlier than it did (the evil midget died in '72, as you know).

The '70s could have turned out so much better. But I guess we'll never know.

this solid belief in our country? I know Barack brought us through the dark and twisted days of George W. Bush. We have to find those who can lead us into the better future that we as a democracy cry out for. It is our only future and we must make it happen.

Thank you, mobeau69 for reminding us of who we really are.
