(9,090 posts)to cull moderates from the GOP and elect and enable the radicals and idiots who serve the billionaires without thinking.
inability to reform health care is like money in politics, like media deregulation, and is a symptom of ignoring talk radio. the billionaires need dems to keep ignoring talk radio and we do. we don't even poll for it.
in this case 1000 + radio stations have been blasting 50 mil a week for 25 years with bullshit about canadians streaming across the border for health care, single payer doctors in europe can't even afford a car, and everyone from hillary clinton to bernie is a communist for trying to destroy the best health care system in the world.
we still have enough democracy left that money still needs a constituency to make their bought politicians look half way legitimate
for 30 years republican reps have been riding the red velvet talk radio bandwagon and feeding off limbaugh and sons prechewed think tank talking points. that is where "death panels" came from, and where the "repeal obamacare" promise came from. hell, even though obama smartly appropriated it, that's where the term "obamacare" came from. and that's why we have trump.

(15,035 posts)It's who they are.
It's what they do.
May all those who vote for Republicans live in the hell they've created.
Unfortunately, we're all going to have to live in the hell to which Republican voters have condemned us.
And elected Republican dicks will go on living in the luxury provided by our tax dollars.
Our system is broken. And it's putting a horrible burden on all of us.

(2,146 posts)Why hasn't some Democratic congressperson stuck in a rider to that affect on the GOP health care plan? This is, whatever plan that they pass for America must also be the same plans for all government employees, including all congresspeople.
They can suffer, too.

(14,570 posts)How about just saying, "Hey, this bill will not be good for the American people, especially in rural areas where hospitals count on Medicaid subsidies to function. Instead of that, we are willing to work across the aisle with Democrats to fix the ACA so that costs can be held down and people still get the care they need! And, oh, by the way, the Affordable Care Act IS Obamacare, just so you know..."
Wouldn't it be nice if snakes like Grassley actually gave a shit about the people instead of always voting to line the pockets of freaks like Charles Koch?
Because make no mistake, 'devolving' federal services to states in the form of block grants and then cutting the block grants does two things for Koch and his criminal ilk:
1. Federal government shrinks because block grants are easier to cut than more traditional funding allocations, and
2. Koch and his radical libertarian allies want pure capitalism with no safety nets; criminal capitalist parasites can control state governments much more effectively than either federal or local governments, so that's EXACTLY where Koch wants all the safety nets to devolve.
Just a warning: Unrestrained capitalism with no safety nets is a living hell for almost everyone. Constant fear, constant economic insecurity, constant stress, impossibility to get ahead - no future. We just become 'hands,' 'wage-slaves,' working for the capitalists. Oh there's a narrow middle class to insulate the billionaire parasites from the so-called 'unwashed masses,' but it is narrow indeed. Most of us will be fucked.
And, if we couple that with the chest pounding nationalism of Trump's white nationalist and nazi supporters, we have a fascist totalitarian government ready to smother us all in the fires of war.
Folks, we are on a SLIPPERY SLOPE, and in this case it ain't no euphemism.

(10,252 posts)GOP knows full well that the bill stinks. Their hubris is so huge that they can never admit they are/were wrong. The promise they made was to the Koch brothers and other billionaires for a tax cut, which would be funded by gutting Medicaid.

(493 posts)You have four years to fix the damn thing but you want it done in what 9 months? So much for responsibility! What a cop out! Never heard such a ridiculous statement coming from one who is suppose to be supporting the people of his district rather than for a damn tax increase and taking away 32 million people's insurance! Vote em out!! Get em all out of there,,,if they aren't for the country and and the well being of the people rather than a party we don't need them!

(19,199 posts)the GOP has had seven years to come up with a plan, and they have NOTHING! They have less than nothing in reality. All they did was complain for seven of Obama's eight years. They've tried almost seventy times to repeal the ACA, and haven't been able to do it. You'd think that after years of banging their heads against the wall, they'd finally catch on and say, Ow, that hurts! But you'd be wrong. They've had all of that time to come up with a decent plan, but you can never use the words 'decent' and 'Republican' in the same sentence. They've come up with nothing. They're like dogs who chase cars. If they caught one..........then what? They don't have a clue, and it shows.
By the way, welcome to Democratic Underground! It's always nice to see new members jumping in on the discussions. We need every vote we can get in the 2018 mid-terms to overturn the Republican majorities in Congress. We can do it!

(5,914 posts)This all started way back in 1993 when, in an effort to control skyrocketing costs and improve access, First Lady and liberal devil Hillary Clinton was charged with coming up with a plan to reform healthcare in America. And MY GOD, how the Republicans pissed and moaned and whined and bitched about it. And they've been pissing and moaning and whining and bitching about it ever since.
In the meantime, as you have pointed out, they have offered sweet fuck-all on the subject. For nearly a quarter of a century, ALL they have done is obstruct every single serious effort that anyone has ever made to fix things. Damn them all to hell.

(19,199 posts)that's when the demonization of Hillary started, and they're still at it to this very day. Amazing how one woman could distract an entire political party for a quarter century. Which is why I love the woman more and more with each passing day. She's shown what a bunch of petty, misogynistic, mean-spirited assholes the Republicans are.
