Look I really wish it was William "Refrigerator" Perry. I think you can imagine how much I wish it was.

And still has all of his cognitive faculties. Unlike Drumpf.

Listen to Perry, not Drumpf. (Obviously!)

5. Threat Of Nuclear War

The threat of a potential nuclear exchange or even a full scale nuclear war is as real as it has ever been. With Trump in office, we have someone who is dangerous and unstable. Congress must act to require that Trump, or any President, should not be able to launch nuclear weapons without the approval of the Congress, ie a Congressional Declaration of War, combined with the concurrent approval of the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of State. This would take the nuclear authority out of the hands of one person, the President, and make it a collaborative and deliberative act between both the Congress and the Executive Branch.

Right now, Trump as President could unilaterally choose to launch nukes within minutes, at North Korea or some other Enemy. This is too much power to be put into the hands of a sane President, much less one with Trump's malignant psyche. We need a system of safeguards to prevent this sort of possibility. Congress must act, and we as citizens should be pushing hard for this form of protection. This is a real potential threat that needs to be safeguarded against.

I think that maybe someone in Congress such as Bernie Sanders or Al Franken should bring the issue up. I think someone like Corker could also get behind this, including more moderate and sane Republican Senators.

The Senate has always been the place for cooler heads versus the more volatile and partisan House. Cordial bipartisanship and good statecraft can and occasionally does come out of the Senate. Maybe we at DU need to promote this with a Petition and a drive to contact our Senators?

We need to restrict the use of nukes to a program of Congressional approval or disapproval. Only in a Congressional Declaration of War should use of Nukes be authorized. This has been a long-standing problem of too much power in the hands of one person, ie the President. It needs to be addressed and corrected ASAP.
