did an investigation. All those Made in America signs were on racks of products that weren't Made in America. This was 20 years ago. He went to a factory in Indonesia with a camera in his hat, pretending to be a buyer. There were kids that lived and worked in the factory. The factory owner would take part of their pay for room and board. The owner said he would put whatever label the buyer wanted to indicate country of origin.

Everyone misspeaks, and Trump more frequently than most, but this has to be the story. The intentional, brutish, cold, and sociopathic economic violence perpetrated by Trump and the corrupt administration that props him up in coordination with unbelievably wealthy and unethical corporations on the middle and lower classes, working poor, and wage slaves in the USA.

It's fun and funny to focus on Trump selling Norway a bunch of fictional aircraft, but as long as we're making fun of typos, the people being screwed by Trump's policies but still supporting him will be able to hold their ground and say that "the left" is just focused on calling Trump stupid. But point out that the corporations that were supposed to create jobs with all of those tax savings they got *IMMEDIATELY* and *WITHOUT WARNING* cut thousands of jobs, and it starts to trickle into their heads that maybe something's wrong, and maybe this isn't all as rosy at the hoarse-throated huckster in the Oval Office keeps promising.

So...break your arm patting yourself on the back Trump for that raise but as usual it had little to do with reality.

My name is Carolyn Davis, and I’m a ten year associate from Eastern North Carolina. Last June, I traveled to Walmart Headquarters in Bentonville, AR to deliver our petition, signed by more than 100,000 associates and supporters across the country, to Walmart executives to publicly commit to paid family leave. I never thought that in less than one year we could get Walmart to provide over 500,000 workers with 10 weeks of FULL PAID LEAVE. I remember when taking time off after having a child meant scrambling between having to use PTO and LOA to cover pay. And while the new policy needs to include part-time associates, it’s still a HUGE step in the right direction.

What’s more, Walmart’s announcement to raise starting wages to $11 an hour brings us $1 closer to $15 and full-time as starting pay so we can better take care of our families. Unfortunately this announcement leaves long-term associates like me without the immediate benefit of a raise, but it’s a step in the right direction towards a sustainable, living wage for everyone.

Now is the time to keep moving forward. With your help, we can continue to help MORE Walmart workers join together and reach out next goal: moving Walmart to publicly commit to $15 and paid family leave for part-time associates!

A $1000 bonus for a full time employee (2,000 hours/year) is equal to a FIFTY CENT raise --
less if the person works overtime. And they act as if it is the most magnanimous gesture
a plutocrat has ever granted.

You will notice that all these corporate bonuses are in the $1,000 - $2,000 range, which
sounds like a big lump sum, but this equals a raise in pay of only $0.50 - $1.00 / hour.
Wages have been lagging for so many years that it would take a raise of 5-10% to get wages
up to where they rightfully should be.

Nauseating political theater is all this is.
Americans are such suckers and are bribed so easily by these scams.

What do these workers LOSE in the process ? I bet it equals more than $1,000 !

I live in Massachusetts. I have a mortgage. I stand to lose thousands of dollars on my
typical tax return.

What they're doing is more PR to help back trump's claim of the tax cuts were the reason for increasing their minimum wages for their people, but all you have to do is look at how they've been doing this for a while now from economic pressures, not tax reductions. Add to that their closing Sam's eliminating thousands of jobs, and not even giving them a 60-90 day notice is a disaster for many now. The average bonus is a meager $190 for their employees, and now they'll continue to do as they have in the past, make more of their people part timers, not getting benefits, and really many will not see an increase in pay, but a decrease in hours to make the owners more money. Just like the tax scam will give them billions to jack up their stock price with making them even more money. trumps tax scam has allowed more companies to move overseas because we're paying them more now to do it. The bubble he's making will not last, as the middle class and poor will not get enough to support their latest fantasy come true. I've stopped going to Walmart, and instead support local, and union places instead. They no longer will get my business.

26. Hate WalMart, but they actually pay better than average similar type, smaller, store in rural areas.

I've worked in mom-and-pop stores and national stores. I much prefer the national stores for pay and whatever benefits are available. The mom-and-pop places are usually better from a social standpoint in that you know the owners, it feels more like "family," etc., but the pay sucks.

Point is, our problems aren't WalMart. It's the whole system.


As to the bonuses and pay increases, I bet the average employee will be grateful, even if they are getting only a small portion of the tax cut.

The 2% in the meme above really doesn't accurately portray the situation because it takes one year of bonuses (apparently without factoring in pay increases, increases in benefits) and compares it to 10 years of projected tax cuts. If you take one year of bonus (leaving out pay increase, etc.), it's really 22% of the value of one year of tax cut if the average bonus is $190 for 2.1 million employees. Arguably that is not enough, but I prefer to keep the message accurate rather distorting stats like GOPers.

The second point is that we have to get out the vote in 2018 and 2020 because there will be a lot of voter-employees out there who look positively at their pay checks after "trump's tax cut," bonuses like Walmarts, etc., and a better feeling of security because unemployment is pretty low (thanks to Obama), and say it really is the economy and it seems to have gotten better under trump (again, we all know it is result of Obama, but the average Joe/Jane ain't going to care). Not saying it's all great, but to someone who hasn't had a lot of good news, particularly in paychecks, many will be pleased. Unfortunately, many will be doubly pleased if trump deports a bunch of Hispanics. We've got some work to do to win in 2018/2020.
