Lee Guin denounced it because they whitewashed the characters. Miyazaki's some did a version that is also b pretty weak.

...with that strange uncalled for patricide at the very beginning.
I don't know why Ursula le Guin's immense storytelling gifts have not ever been truly realized in the film media.
