The folksong "Thoughts Are Free" was one of Sophie's favorites. She used to play it on the flute.

Brave brave people. I wish I could be so brave.

were indeed very brave, hard to fathom, such young lives with the best ideals.
Sophie, Hans and others were same age as my parents, aunts and uncles, b. 1917-1920s. Some of them were in college at the same time as the White Rose students, then in the war. What an awful time, and did they rise to the occasion.

6. The White Rose: It is not this dark yet, but its getting there.

We all may have the chance to be as brave in this country as the White Rose was in Germany.

I was 14 when I fully realized what the Holocaust was about. It was when Eichmann was caught, and I later read the book, Auschwitz, which just traumatized me. Here is a good read about the Holocaust and what is happening today. “How Do You Kill 11 Million People” by Andy Andrews.

"If the truth is what sets us free, we need to ask what it means to live in a society where truth is absent, where we are routinely lied to by politicians of both parties, Wall Street, and the media. What is at stake? Can we survive in such a culture of deception? Our only hope, Andy argues, is an informed citizenry that demands truth at every level—first from themselves and second from their leaders. We must be able to separate fact from fiction, truth from lies, and hold those who lie accountable."

“People are being rounded-up all over the country. The numbers are small and scattered now, but the mechanism is being established. It is vans and buses now, when the cattle cars start screaming by, how loudly will you be singing?”

“The Holocaust resulted neither from a confluence of circumstances beyond human control nor from history’s inexorable march. It happened because ordinary people failed to stop it.”

The White Rose Leaflets
“Nothing is so unworthy of a civilized nation as allowing itself to be governed without opposition by an irresponsible clique that has yielded to base instinct. It is certain that today every honest German is ashamed of his government. Who among us has any conception of the dimensions of shame that will befall us and our children when one day the veil has fallen from our eyes and the most horrible of crimes - crimes that infinitely outdistance every human measure - reach the light of day?”
“We will not be silent. We are your bad conscience. The White Rose will not leave you in peace!”

Peaceful resistance, yes, I agree. If a bully attempts to harm those I care about, then I practice "The Art of War" Sun Tzu.

But labeling them as "antifas" and painting them all as violent, anarchists.

especially in RW propaganda has a long history and unfortunately continues with false 'antifa' claims today. Seventy-five years ago, members of the White Rose group appealed through the power of language and words in the pamphlets they wrote and distributed calling out the brutal reality of the Nazis. Their activism cost them the highest price, their lives. Truth always wins, even in the end is my hope.

inspiring young Germans who risked their lives to resist Nazism and influence change. Wish I'd known of them years ago when in Munich as a teen and in college, but better late than never.

During the Third Reich the guillotine was used to execute over 16,000 resistance fighters and political dissidents, 1933-1945.
