TLDR; They'll nail Donald on the money laundering, Ivanka's been involved in that, he'll be given the choice: resign or she gets indicted.
Poof and he's gone !

(52,193 posts)then I'm not settling for resignation.
I might settle away obstruction charges, maybe even campaign violations.
But if he's a crook from long before running for office, then I'm not letting him off just for quitting a temp job early.
Wellll, if I know he's getting nailed on state charges, then I'd consider it.

(3,515 posts)rides. Where is justice if a person who laundered money for Russians just quits the presidency and walks away free?
And yet, I believe in forgiveness. But I also recognize that our justice system needs a lot of reform.

(54,770 posts)There will always be one, two or more white wingers on any jury in this country who will believe it's all lies, fake news, those mean liberals were out to get him, etc.
He might be forced to resign though, and that's good enough for me if that is all we can get. But, somewhere along the line, Mueller has to come up with proof trump knew of this junk before the election. So far -- even in the Cohen case -- we only know he knew of it when he lied about the payment long after the election. I do think his aides, Kushner and maybe kids will go down, again if a jury will convict. They can certainly be ruined in all this.

(52,193 posts)These people really seem incompetent.
That said, my concern is more that Donnie can run out the clock. There's plenty of opportunity to delay things, especially while he's still in office.
He remaining life expectancy is only 8 years. By the time he gets convicted and it's time to sentence him, they'll be able to say that due to declining health any prison time would be a death sentence, so he may be able to escape that.
I'm hoping for major asset forfeiture.
But you're right, they can certainly go after his family, they're up to their eyeballs in all this.

(24,277 posts)is that we let Nixon walk away. He should have died of old age in a federal prison, like Trump should.
It is a profound mockery of criminal justice when we let a criminal just quit his job as a penalty. Happens with police a sometimes and it pisses me off.

(2,161 posts)... and leniency is never appreciated or respected, or repaid by the side that receives it.
- Not executing or imprisoning the traitors of the Civil War.
- Letting the Industrialists that tried to stage a coup to overthrow Roosevelt walk free.
- Not going after the Republicans that undermined the Vietnam peace talks.
- Not going after the Republicans who undermined the hostage negotiations with Iran.
- Not investigating/prosecuting the Republicans who lied us into a war with Iraq.
- Not prosecuting those who authorized/tortured/assisted in torture during the Iraq war.
I probably have missed a few.
I agree that acting on these crimes might have been difficult to prosecute, but not prosecuting has not really seemed to have done any good; especially trying the statesmen and the generals of the Confederacy. That one was a tough call, and Im not sure if anything would have turned out better if it had happened. But dammit, my stomach still twists with anger when I contemplate John Yoo and everyone else involved in the torture directives getting off Scott free and being rewarded after doing such heinously evil acts that hurt so many for no gain.

(10,870 posts)I think if he is capable of loving anything other than himself, for him it is Ivanka.
And, I will leave that as is.
Not getting into any psychological evaluations of it.
I think he is proudest of her as his creation.
So, yes, he would protect her more than anything else other than himself.

(4,291 posts)As to "letting" Cadet Bone Spurs walk away, I'd be in favor of letting Putin have him. We've seen how Vlad deals with those he no longer needs or wants.

(11,885 posts)I wouldn't bet on him saving his own kids. He'll undermine the system and find someone who'll corrupt the system for them to get off with, but leaving for them I doubt.

Not that he'd care. Plus, if he doesn't resign, couldn't he then pardon her anyway?

(14,169 posts)Its rather her own crimes that Mueller could use against her and her father to strike a deal.
She had that opportunity to end her father's reign of terror before he even had the chance. I know it would have been hard to speak out against her own father, putting country first, especially seeing as the Republicans can't even put country ahead of party. But she could have. And announced she would just concentrate on her own brand and stay away from the White House, not giving her dad any legitimacy. I predict that her name now is just as sullied as her fathers. She may have gained a lot of business from women for her own products, and grown her Ivanka brand to be larger than her fathers. Now the Ivanka brand is forever complicit with the Trump brand.
Now I gather she was in on the scam as early as her hubby was. They all should rot in jail.

He'll throw her under the bus just a little teeny tiny bit slower than Jarrod.
Dump cares about one thing, and one thing only: HIMSELF.
