Should we the country of "give me liberty or death" allow for the liberty of death with dignity?

(410 posts)Look at this like abortion and apply the "Rule of the Dog":
Who has a dog in the hunt?
1) the woman
2) her medical advisor
3) biological father if know
4) her spiritual advisor, if applicable
5) immediate family, as in husband and kids
6) parental family
7) friends
IF YOU ARE NOW HERE --- THEN YOU DON'T HAVE A DOG IN THE HUNT ! ! !
Period, Full Stop, STFU [shut the f* up] and Sit Down.
Same applies for suicide.
First it is just pandering to the medical/pharma/insurance industries on making a "law".
Rich old white men that are holier that god should stay out of women's vagina and out of my coffin.
That makes government "much smaller" with more efficient paper work.

(713 posts)It should be a Human Right to Die by Choice, to Die with Dignity. There are good deaths and bad deaths. I have seen people, family members, pass away in ways that were not good. We need to have Choice, and readily available, reliable Medical Treatment for End of Life.

(63,221 posts)when they feel that they have had enough. Sure, people could commit suicide on their own, but it would most likely be painful, terrifying, messy, lonely and traumatic for the person who found the body. Why not let the individual say their goodbyes in a clinical environment or their own bed where they could just peacefully drift off and never wake up again? Where their loved ones knew what was going to happen and could prepare for it. If you are against this, then nobody is going to force you. There should be many checks and balances to make sure that it is not abused, but for those that have made the decision, the option should be available.

(12,882 posts)and more recently, my favorite aunt - both of whom voiced frustrations that they had to keep waking up to days of mental and physical torment - I can't fathom resistance to letting them end their grueling days of lingering on. Of course, if the phony religio-dictators weren't shaking in their boots as to their own "redemption", we MAYBE could have a reasoned, objective discourse about this. But as long as we prop up imaginary overseers to fear, common sense won't distill and prevail.

(63,221 posts)We seem to value the length of live over the quality. I just hope when my time comes that I will have a choice. We need to get these religious nutcases out of government!

(51,584 posts)Is that in CA you have to have two doctors agree to do it 6 months before you would naturally die. Often people are in terrible pain and want to die before they have to suffer any longer to reach that 6 month mark. The other problem is that the doctors are hard to find since they are afraid of lawsuits even though it is legal.
I always notice how people say it is humane for animals but when it comes to people they have a different attitude. I think they are being selfish and don't want to lose a loved one and go through the inevitable grieving process. Many people want to live forever or to be 100. That is until their quality of life is miserable, they are in agonizing pain and there is no relief except death. Who would want a loved one to go through that Hell? That is not love.
