(537 posts)Think about it: Trumpers may stand behind their man when he does all the other odious things, but I believe many of them will strongly relate to this point!

(537 posts)We should make sure they all know. Just make it the first point we raise when talking to family, acquaintance Trumpers.
"Did you know that Trump hates animals?" (Or dogs, or cats, or whatever that person happens to have.)
Animal lovers are usually pretty irrational when it comes to animals, rightly so. I am. We just do some really stupid things, things that may go against our religious or political beliefs, when it comes to our animals. They may say they are, for example, against abortion. Or gay marriage, or whatever. But when tested.... well, you know, if *they* need an abortion, or if *their* family member is gay (Dick Cheney)... But if they are an animal lover, I doubt you will get them to deny the importance of pets in our lives. It is a very strong emotional issue. Try it. Find the Trumper in your life and ask them what they think of people who don't like dogs (or pets, or whatever). Then tell them it's Trump.
Think about it. We may have found their Achilles heal.

(27,804 posts)It definitely should have been brought up by the "debate" moderators. Look, I get that some people are allergic to dogs or cats, or were maybe attacked by a dog at one point, but overall, it's a test of humanity as to how we treat animals. One of the big pet stores, I think it was PetSmart, rated the candidates on animal policy ahead of the campaign. Of the candidates and their running mates, they rated:
1) Hillary
2) Pence
3) Kaine
barely registering, Trump.
This would have been so much more enlightening to people than that snotty kid asking Hillary "why don't young people trust you?" (I know it was in the primary but I still want to wring his neck!) or whichever moderator asked the Trump and Hillary to say nice things about each other (so ridiculous).
How hard would it have been for someone to cite the study and say, "what are your policies towards animals?" or, "do you have a pet?"
It would have totally exposed Trump, and yet they chose not to highlight it (if he's willing to put kids in cages, God knows how he'd treat animals). It would have been a huge tell. I even posted the survey myself, on social media, and nobody paid attention.
It obviously still infuriates me!

I am glad the moron doesn't have a dog...It would probably be abused and defend itself the the moron would have it killed. That is pretty much his MO.

(27,804 posts)The most human thing about the Bushes was the way they interacted with their dogs. Even I looked forward to Barney's Christmas video, even though I felt he was squatting in the White House.

(41,131 posts)I've never heard much mention of it. And Jon Stewart is into animal welfare big, has a NJ farm I think.
Keith Olberman is a much needed voice. But MSNBC has quite a record of canned or lost talent: Phi Donahue, Keith, Ed Schultz, Melissa Harris-Perry. Haven't watched wkend. mornings to see if Rev. Al is still around.
