that doesn't explain the total takeover of the republican party by global warming deniers, racists, thieves, traitors, and loons the last 30 years. voter suppression and political money deregulation gets voted in by republicans who are constantly lied to.

most republicans are voting based on lies and fake news and alternate realities that have been weaponized for 30 years by talk radio the left ignores. a lot of voter suppression is being voted in because they believe illegal aliens are voting for democrats. a lot of people hate hillary based on total bullshit. they vote against single payer because they've heard for thirty years how bad it is and that canadians and europeans hate it. they vote for media deregulation and killing net neutrality because they've heard for thirty years it keeps prices down and govt out. they heard for 30 years that corporations are people and money is free speech.

we still have enough democracy and media competition that the republicans can't just buy everything, altho we're getting there.

the biggest advantage the cons have had is 20-1 coordinated control of messaging from 1500 radio stations dominating 40 states (with 80 senators). it is the major source of free easy political information, especially while riving and working. it is the only major medium with no free easy alternatives a click away. it is a well protected wall mart vs mom and pop monopoly propaganda operation and for americans to keep giving it a free speech free ride while blaming symptoms it often causes directly or indirectly is pure fucking idiocy - the biggest political mistake in history

yeah, GOTV, but doing something about talk radio is not only the biggest opportunity to get real reform and destroy the GOP, continuing to ignore it will continue to make real democracy impossible.

right now those stations are attacking democrats and making excuses for trump. how the fuck did gw bush, palin, trump even get close to the WH? because gore and kerry were elitist nerds? because hillary wanted those people to die in benghazi, or she was the most corrupt politician in centuries? democrats are communists who want to take your guns and tax you to hell? they found a way to mass market that crap and liberals ignore it because we'd rather listen to music.

the best way to get a taste of that messaging is to listen to sample those radio stations once in a while when there's a major news event, and limbaugh is the point man for all of them so that's a good start.

the ability of the cons to paint kneeling athletes as unpatriotic is a great eg of the absurdity of the whole thing - limbaugh started that and trump rides it, but the incredible thing is at least 260 of limbaugh's 600 radio stations depend on college (list of 88 dumbass universities at republiconradio.org )and pro athletes to attract advertising - if any of those universities or pro teams decided thtey would stop broadcasting sports on rw radio many of them would follow suit and advertisers would head for the hills for ALL rw radio.

instead, we rely on GOTV and wait for mueller. talk radio is their GOTV and it's hammering mueller all day - just turn on limbaugh once in a while. we are NOT getting his back.

democrats only hope seems to be for mueller to discover that limbaugh and hannity have been working for putin.

along with hannity involved so closely with trump and the parallels between what limbaugh's been emphasizing the last 10 0r 15 years (pushing palin on mccain while manafort was cochair of that campaign, climategate, debt default, general fascism) there's a good chance the talk radio gods have been getting freelance money - maybe russian money.

gerrymandering and voter suppression measures are problems but a lot of that got passed by republicans who voted them in because they actually believe crap about millions of illegal aliens voting for democrats, etc. that is why the immigration issue never goes anywhere.

voter suppression, gerrymandering, and money will always be factors but talk radio is the main advantage they have for thwarting efforts at reform. then they even use the same buzz machine to get dems to blame their reps for not trying or succeeding when they do try. when the majority wants to fix those factors to favor the majority instead of the billionaires their talk radio propaganda operation is the only major factor with no challenge from the other side of the political spectrum.

that is why it offers the most opportunity for change and why it is so dumb of the left 's orgs to continue to ignore talk radio. getting the senate and trump in jail would be a lot easier if dems finally began to challenge talk radio.

Where else would they come from?

republicans take money from big oil. big oil is the source behind the climate denial.

create constituencies to enable their crooked politicians so they don't look bought. that's what talk raido does - creates made-to-order constituencies.

a whole party denying GW, a national security issue, is the result of a massively successful propaganda operation spearheaded by talk radio, and that spearheaded by limbaugh, the guy who turned russian-hacked emails into "climategate" in 2009, to set us back many years.

the reason the GOP can deny is limbaugh polices 1500 radio stations in continuing to deny

and it is idiotic for environmental groups to continue to let 88 universities (republiconradio.org) to keep broadcasting sports on 260 limbaugh stations in leading that denial.

This might be a stupid question, but how are republicans able to draw up the districts like that in their favor? How is that legal? Why don't Democrats have any say in this? I don't really understand how gerrymandering works and is allowed.

I just don't get how this should be allowed or legal. It's just so wrong and frustrating.

Thank you for the post - It was very enlightening, but it's still infuriating.

I guess the Redistricting Majority Project (REDMAP) is so successful because the Republicans have been stacking the judiciary with activist judges for decades. I don't know... I'm reading "Democracy in Chains, the deep history of the radical right's stealth plan for America." These people are nuts, they can't wait for the U.S. to be like a third world banana republic.

if the Democrats could pay Nintendo and/or Niantic to put a catchable legendary like Moltres or Zapdos at every polling place on election day, they'd get a turnout boost. maybe not 20 million additional eligible voters, but there'd be some excitement for sure.

just a passing thought, pay it no heed.
