Rape is not just women's problem. Or even their "credibility problem."
Rape AND its institutionalized coverup, is a criminal problem of men.
To women and male allies: Do not wait -- do not wait -- for the statutes of limitation to make raped women's evidence moot.
Prosecutors in every state must be dragged into courts to explain why 200,143 rape kits have been stockpiled, untested for years. Raped women's legal recourse is ignored for years, sitting in boxes in warehouses while their rapists walk free. All over this country.
Courts, lawyers and prosecutors must do their fucking jobs. Stop insisting and start prosecuting chiefs and labs responsible for rape kit testing.
The very existence of these hundreds of thousands of untested rape kits disproves the media-amplified claim that if some women lie, all women are not to be trusted.
Only .005 women are found to lie about rape. Almost no one is falsely accused of rape.

These 200,143 rape kits lead to DNA identifiable rapists. Once test results identify rapists, their adjudication more than makes up for any women who lie about being raped.
Humans lie. These rape kits don't lie. Women went through the pain and suffering of hours of paperwork, interviews and submitting to rape kit swabs and identification.
Any patriarchalist claims about women liars are worthless. Patriarchal coverup is the new rape.
All men bear the stigma of their male-run, institutionalized coverup.
Women should never have to do legal battle alone to get equal justice before ANY law, especially rape laws.
By planetary standards, Rape has been a WAR CRIME since 1949.

(43,140 posts)biased against men, bigoted for that reason, and insensitive. Some women, when angered, can be vicious liars. They may not falsely accuse anyone of rape, but they can badmouth and make the lives of their ex's miserable. When I befriend a divorced woman, I am listening to see if issues with her ex relationship are resolved. Sometimes there are no complaints, sometimes mere issues, and sometimes I seem to be eligible to be cast in the role of the ex spouse. I try to avoid those types.
Surely my post here is unpopular, but reality intrudes in many ways into ideology.

Not all bias is bigotry. Crime data is itself biased against men. Studies cited here show that women rarely lie.
You think HBO is biased? bigoted? or the studies of women who come forward?
Just what are you trying to say about this post? "Don't bring me no bad news?"

(29,322 posts)I have seen too many I'm worried about my sons posts when the world we live isn't one where men lives are ruined by false allegations (it does happen rarely) but one where perportrators of sexual assault often get away with it while victim's suffer from long lasting trauma.

(36,031 posts)Trying to get justice about this problem, as she says, can be statistically and emotionally overwhelming.
The overwhelming question remains: when there is evidence, why doesn't the clock start ticking on prosecutors' and detectives' work in locating the rapists. She says they can act, but there's not one good thing that law enforcement has historically done for women.
That even as laws articulate penalties for rape, state by state, she still has to back a Six Pillars of Legislation project to make them act.
If that doesn't show patriarchy's disgustingly passive indifference to justice for women, along with the normalizing of rape for men -- an act of war -- then I don't know what does.
Researched DNA "hits" show 879 serial rapists, who committed a total of thousands of rapes, one of whom was a truck driver continuing to rape across the country.
This is criminal justice, as in justice that is criminal.
To me it means: no equal justice before rape law = no equality under law at all.

(205,237 posts)What does it take to get these tests done?? But Mariska Hargitay is the perfect person to take on this issue - that's exactly the kind of thing her show addresses and she's using her celebrity for an excellent cause - to get the word out there!

(205,237 posts)I have been thinking that the horror show of the Kavanaugh appointment could have one positive outcome if it brings attention to the neglect of this horrific crime in this country - which has devastated thousands of women - and we finally see some action on the backlog - and law enforcement starts giving this the attention it desperately deserves!
