(652 posts)All 6 of us actually studied the bible in depth for years. All of us reached the same conclusions and are now atheists.
I was the last one to change my mind. For years, I struggled with Christianity. Then one morning I woke up to this thought: I am an Atheist and was having a hard time because I didn't want to admit it to myself.
I've been free ever since.
Plus, very few Christians I've met over the decades (and there have been many) have ever read the entire bible even once, much less questioned what their pastors say. They are like sheep.
I think many of them are Christians like I was -- in name only -- questioning but unwilling to give up the idea of God.
And many are just plain afraid to go to hell.
Many of them distort the bible to fit their own world view, one that is in many cases the opposite of what the bible says.
I have met very few Christians who actually show it in their words and deeds.

(17,175 posts)It would follow. Atheism and agnosticism are informed choices. Christianity may only be followed because of traditions or expectations.
The Christians would, however, be more informed as to the rituals and peculiarities of their own church.
