"If You're Not Scared About Fascism In The US, You Should Be," NYT Opinion, Oct. 16, 2018 by Jason Stanley. Professor of Philosophy at Yale University, Stanley has spent the better part of a decade studying fascism and fascist propaganda. He is also the son of Holocaust survivors. His short video produced for the NYT delivers a simple, direct and powerful warning about what this country is undergoing under Donald Trump.
>Video: "You might think I'm trying to frighten you by making these parallels. And do you know what? I am. My parents survived the Holocaust. And my grandmother, in her memoir, wrote about how Jews in Germany didn't see the Nazi threat until it was too late. "In 1937, we were still able to leave the country," she wrote. "We could still live in our homes. We could still worship in our temples. We were in a ghetto. But the majority of our people were still alive." I want you to be scared, because if you're not worried about encroaching fascism in America, before long, it will start to feel normal. And when that happens, we're all in trouble."

I'm glad NYT is too.
Now.
Finally.
A little late to the party, but okay.

(4,642 posts)Fascism. It is startlingly relevant in the face of American politics today.

(19,186 posts)I've been saying this very thing since the Baby Bush administration. It wasn't Bush himself so much, but his "handlers", Cheney, Rove and the like. Trump has put fascism in America on overdrive. It's not creeping fascism anymore, it's on a full tilt gallop. Trump is probably the most dangerous man to ever sit in the Oval Office. Just look at how he got there. Russian interference in our voting process, and rampant voter suppression. And he still lost the popular vote by almost 3 million votes. If not for the archaic "electoral college" Trump would have already been relegated to the sewer system of classic losers.
November 6 will be one of the most important days in the relatively young history of our country. Either we'll finally have some checks and balances on the fascist Trump regime, or our country will officially morph into a fascist dictatorship. I'm hoping that all the Republican's attempts to subvert democracy will be thwarted, or that the elections will produce a cheat-proof blue wave, crushing the attempts by Republicans to cheat their way to victory once again. The future of our country and it's citizens depends upon it.
