(205,223 posts)I remember reading that John Oliver isn't fond of talking about Trump, he mostly leaves that to the weeknight comedians, but I'm glad that he finally weighed in on the biggest crisis we're facing with his wit and wisdom. I'm just bummed out that this is his last show of "the season," the news keeps on happening and I'm hoping that he'll pop in during the interim like he frequently does.

(63,221 posts)think that he has a unique insight into this situation as a Brit. I am also sad to know that this is his last show of the season (when does the new season start again?). There is just so much happening and it seems like people like Oliver and the other late night comedians are the only ones who make it bearable. Thanks again for posting!

(205,223 posts)And I don't know what his "season" is, but it looks like it's the same as Bill Maher's - not back till January. Why are they leaving us now?! Just because the midterms are over, that doesn't mean there isn't more scary news every day!

(6,623 posts)We're very lucky that he's here and takes deep dives into fundamental systemic problems--with great humor!
Thanks for posting, Rhiannon, and Happy Thanksgiving!

(205,223 posts)I know that a lot of us hoped that he'd take over The Daily Show when Jon Stewart left after he did such a great job when Jon was gone. But this show was the right decision for him and his brand of intelligent humor - rather than scrambling to make jokes about breaking news, he takes his time and also informs!
And wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving, too, my friend!

(8,282 posts)knowing it was the last show of this season. He's simply amazing in his perspective. My British hubby agrees!
Thanks for sharing. xx

(205,223 posts)I'm just bummed out that he's not going to be on for several weeks - same with Bill Maher, they must observe the same "season."
And it's great to hear that your husband likes him too. This was the perfect medium for him - he can choose whatever topic he wants, isn't tied to breaking news - and he can cover it in depth, which is also informative besides still being very funny!

(8,282 posts)We need a good civics lesson broadcast so the citizens can learn what they missed in school.
He's amazing as Jon Stewart was too.
We used to watch him every night even here in Europe.
And I got on the Daily show bandwagon late. I didn't get into politics until 2007 when Obama was on the scene. Thanks Oprah. Anyway, I didn't vote until 2008 and have every election since because of DU, the Daily show and continue on with Bill Maher and John Oliver. I had to learn everybody's name, whose side they were on, etc. Before that, I tuned out, literally. Every time the news showed politics, I changed the channel because after Nixon resigned for being a crook, I thought they all were. Obama changed that for me and I'm so glad he did. Now I know how truly awful 45 is.
