Ever wonder why Trump's base stays with him, despite his serious flaws?

Ever wonder why Trump's base stays with him, even though he's bad to the bone? I grew up listening to this and other songs from classic Rogers & Hammerstein hits. This song from the movie "Carousel," which reflected the total passivity and loyalty of some women in those days, sort of explains the mindset of many Trumpers, I think (except we need to add a dash of hatred for "others" in the mix, that is not in the song).

Common sense may tell you
That the ending may be sad
And now's the time to break and run away.
But what's the use of wondering
If the ending will be sad
He's your fella and you love him
There's nothing more to say.

1. I think the hatred of others is the key.

They are not interested in the nation or it's policies.
The only issues they might care about are local ones like noisy neighbors or kids driving too fast on weekend nights.
Federal issues are too distant and abstract to be of any real concern.

But they LOVE the permission to hate and vent that hate with abandon.
The more chaos and destruction Trump causes, the more they love him.
He causes high and mighty people to despair and this is great entertainment for them.
They have no concept that this chaos will ever affect their daily lives, only that it makes distant others miserable which is fun to watch.

So they will automatically defend Trump and insult anyone who's against him because they don't bother to understand any of the issues at stake.
It's just too much fun to be an asshole and be part of a community that supports assholiness.

done and that is give their supporters someone to blame for either their current problems in life or someone to blame for the problems taking place in their country.

Bingo... They hated Democrats in power more than they liked tRump. I think they were mainly voting against Hillary and if it wasn't tRump, any Republican would do.
It's the us against them thing...

Who knew our country was so full of jerks? Someone like Obama makes assholes feel shame, and they hate that.

It's like watching Jerry Springer to make your own family & relationships seems "not so bad".

Such trashy shows, with trashy people on them...and they're scripted and obviously fake.

6. I believe trump's base stays with him for the same reason people stay with god. Faith in something

no matter how truthful or rational or logical. And fear to doubt that faith, fear to think for themselves.

Imanual Kant: What is Enlightenment (1784)

Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed immaturity. Immaturity is the inability to use one's understanding without guidance from another. This immaturity is self-imposed when its cause lies not in lack of understanding, but in lack of resolve and courage to use it without guidance from another. Sapere Aude! [dare to know] "Have courage to use your own understanding!"—that is the motto of enlightenment.

Laziness and cowardice are the reasons why so great a proportion of men, long after nature has released them from alien guidance (naturaliter maiorennes), nonetheless gladly remain in lifelong immaturity, and why it is so easy for others to establish themselves as their guardians. It is so easy to be immature. If I have a book to serve as my understanding, a pastor to serve as my conscience, a physician to determine my diet for me, and so on, I need not exert myself at all. I need not think, if only I can pay: others will readily undertake the irksome work for me. The guardians who have so benevolently taken over the supervision of men have carefully seen to it that the far greatest part of them (including the entire fair sex) regard taking the step to maturity as very dangerous, not to mention difficult.
