(42,862 posts)The ones he's describing are beyond "discussion/dialogue/anything productive" so the best course of action is to call them out for what they are and de-legitimize them to the fullest extent allowed. Marginalize them and remove whatever influence they have. They're like anti-vaxers. Nothing will change them, so they need to be ridiculed and ostracized from society. Good riddance to them.
PS: I dislike Bill Maher for different reasons.

(130,865 posts)We must NOT give up on ANYONE.
NO ONE should be ridiculed and ostracized, we have to LIVE with these people.
I rarely watch Maher.
NurseJackie
(42,862 posts)EDIT: We used to watch Maher regularly... but then he got crazy. I stopped enjoying him and he just made me angry when he validated and gave voice to people like Milo whatshisface.
amuse bouche
(3,657 posts)He's far from crazy. I dislike his reich wing guests, as any good dem would. However, he gives dems much needed checks and an occasional scolding. Love him to pieces and would never miss his show.
Dems don't have many cheerleaders. It's horrible that a good one like him, gets trashed over an occasional blip on the screen
NurseJackie
(42,862 posts)He's also a complete ass whenever one of his "jokes" fails and does a belly-flop... instead of rolling with it and laughing at himself (or blaming his writers), he scolds the audience for being "too dumb" to get it, or for being too "sensitive" whenever his crass humor is rejected with groans or a smattering of muffled laughter.
amuse bouche
(3,657 posts)Scolding is much different than what you actually said. You stopped watching him since he got 'crazy'
You come across as super angry but don't blame it all on him. He's not the problem.
Purity dems are a real problem. I'm with him 100% on that note

(42,862 posts)You and I probably agree on more than you realize. I guess it's the abrupt, direct, harsh and serrated way that I describe things that bothers you. I just tell it like it is. If anyone wants to dismiss me by characterizing me as being "super angry", there's not much I can do about that. I've heard it all before.

(58,785 posts)but he's the scorpion in the ancient fable about human nature.
Remember, the scorpion needed to get to the other side of the river and promised the frog he wouldn't sting him because if he did they'd both drown? When they were about to die in the middle of the river, the frog asked "Why?!" And the scorpion said, "Because it's my nature." And, this being a fable and thus meant to be a lesson to the reader, added: "You knew what I was."
Human nature's the same as it always was, and there are lots of scorpions out there who want democratic programs but just can't or won't control their nature to sabotage the efforts of others.
Scorpions are not exactly hard to identify once the lesson is taken. In politics, they're almost always seeking (more) power or talking trash about people of similar ideology who have it. After all, if they were in charge who would they sabotage? And, this is big: They always identify themselves as having high morals and ideals, always setting themselves above and decrying corruption and weakness in all those Democratic frogs who threaten to achieve what they do not.
question everything
(47,470 posts)Too often he holds a distorted mirror, but a mirror nonetheless, to what we find uncomfortable. In this case, he was a spot on. I am getting tired of us, Democrats, demanding that our leaders apologize for everything, including, as we see on the Primary Forum, things from several decades ago.

(42,862 posts)It's the phrase "protected by a technicality" that's confusing. From what am I being protected? From whom? What's the technicality?
Whatever it is, I seem to have struck a nerve. (Supposedly, my use of animated emojis means I'm a "troll".)
Oh well.

(2,172 posts)Could believe what Chelsea Clinton posted on Twitter had anything to do with what happened in New Zealand? They may not be crazy but they are not thinking straight.

(1,037 posts)Some of our extremists really are unhinged to attack Chelsea Clinton for saying something as simple as anti-semitism is bad. Ilhan Omar has made no less than four anti-semitic statements in less than two months and the vast bulk of the party was correct to call out her anti-semitism.
Also before any of you lie, no, Ilhan Omar did not criticize Israeli policies. Omar claimed Jewish Americans are disloyal to America simply because they are Jewish and THAT is disgusting anti-semitism. We as a party should never accept or cover for such filth.
