(53,661 posts)The key to a habitable planet is to end toxic waste by not producing it in the first place. Point of origin control is a function of public awareness and tough regulation. A recent example:
The EPA is considering historic new standards for air pollution, but billionaires like the Koch brothers are spending big money on D.C. lobbyists to block these reforms.
These new standards, supported by President Obama, would place limits on industrial carbon pollution from power plants. But the Koch brothers and their billionaire buddies are trying to block these vital new public health safeguards in order to keep dumping unlimited amounts of industrial carbon pollution into our air.
President Obama & the EPA need you to voice your support for new standards. Enacting these standards would help level the playing field for clean energy, and hold industrial polluters accountable. Show big polluters that their multi-million dollar lobbying campaign can't buy them the right to pollute our air.
The EPA is accepting public comments before deciding whether to close the loopholes that allow companies to pollute the air we breathe.
This is your chance to make your voice heard.
You can sign on to the statement below, or leave your own comment, by filling out the following form. The Sierra Club will deliver your message to the EPA.

And we need to push towards using a lot less of everything. It's not easy in the face of a political environment that thinks we have the right to destroy the planet because someone's coming to save us or the Mother Earth will clean our mess just because. We have to accept our responsibility.

There's lots out there.
