2. After years of scams and fake fund raising calls, 14 in 2 days I am fighting back

I would love Lenny but I want nasty, insulting threatening Lenny. That is how I answer these assholes now. For years I never picked the phone now I do and taunt them and insult them and next I am going to publish all the phone numbers even though most are fake but I will still threaten them. The old expression "I've had enough and I am not taking it anymore" is now in affect in this house for all the scammers who call me.

I understand the sentiment of wanting to express the anger and frustration directly to the caller... but they'll just hang up and move on after it's clear that they aren't going to get anywhere with you.

The beauty of Lenny is that he keeps a single caller on the phone, distracted and frustrated, for such a LONG time. He's wasting the caller's time and preventing them from calling dozens more during the entire "conversation". It's simply brilliant.

4. I used to have fun with them also...

(To be honest I did not watch the vids I will later.)

I’d answer and immediately warn them that I was A.D.D.. I’d let them get into their presentation and mummer little sounds like I was agreeing with them and was interested. (That’s the crux, interested)...then I’d say “oh wait a minute someone’s at the door”...come back in about 10-15 seconds...say “Hi watchca need?”...let them get into talking a few seconds...take a long pause..”What were we talking about?”...apologize...question again “Who are you?”...

I was recovering from a bypass so I had time on my hands.

10. I did that but could hear the caller on the other end hang up

after 10 seconds. I think that the robot calls automatically hang up if they do not hear a voice.

I have screened all my calls since 1986 and sometimes get 6 telemarketers a day. They even call my cell which I never use except for emergencies.

...just HANG up and if you have a block on your phone use it. You arent going to insult them.. they have another call ready to place as soon as you hang up.

EVEN for POLITICAL fundraising calls. I donate but.... come on!!! Quit with the calls. Again...just hang up if you dont feel like being polite. Many arent working for your candidate anyway and they have a call waiting as soon as you hang up. If the person is esp nice, I hang up mid-sentence (My sentence)..sounds like I stupidly accidentally cut myself off Their calls are recorded but dont worry their boss wont fire them because you 'accidentally' hung up on them.

iv got more tips on dealing with ops esp if you call them up to order an 'as seen on tv' doodad (MAGIC BULLET!).. maybe later.

5. Years ago, I was working in an office and the phone rings....

" This is ...... from..... With whom am I speaking with this morning?"

Me: "John Hotdog."

"And how are you doing this morning, Mr. Hotdog (Like he really gave a shit)?"

Me: "Not too good. I ate too many pork rinds last night. Can you hold a couple of minutes, I gotta go to the bathroom."

"Certainly."

----I put him on hold.

About 20 minutes later, I picked up the phone and the poor sot was still there."

On the other hand, it was some poor bastard trying to make a living.

9. That first agent was very professional and handled it well.

I've been in CS for 15 years. One of the major things you can get fired for is hanging up on a customer without closing the call. The first agent took some time but listened and figured out it was a random recording by testing for repetition and asking specific probing questions which is a legit technique. If a CSR listens to the customer they'd never take up their call time trying to interact with someone who is obviously not interested, and you can determine that in less than a minute. You don't keep talking to someone who goes on and on about their eldest daughter and how she doesn't speak to him for weeks because he's obviously not the decision-maker in the household.

The second..."This call may be recorded for quality insurance..."
Lenny: "What was your name again?" CSR: "ummm...basically my job today..." Not even listening. And talks over her potential customer. Later "I understand your hesitance..."

(Mentally checks the "needs coaching" box.) Actually, I just looked at her call time FIFTY-SIX MINUTES. It shouldn't have taken her so long to realize, even if it were a real person, she wasn't going to convert that call. She'd get put on "always record" and probably fired for talking over the customer and not figuring out it was a recording within 15 minutes. It took me less than three minutes to figure out she failed that call, even not taking into account the trickery.

This would actually be an amazing training tool for new agents to gauge how well they listen and figure out it's a recording.

my favorite: "So, what are you wearing ?" [Now, use your imagination and you can figure out the rest.]

The responses were always . . . interesting.
