2. Valedictorian of her class doesn't know it's "to my parents and me"

Not “to my parents and I.”

She lost me when she called out the alcoholic teacher.

Hope you sail through your privileged f’g life and no one disappoints you by telling you about scholarships again at the last minute. Cuz as worthy as you may feel, scholarships consist of money donated by strangers to you. Better to show gratitude for those rather than anger towards others.

Not liking this speech. Sorry. Hope she grows up to be a kinder person.

8. I agree 100%, MaryMagdaline

She wasn't speaking extemporaneously, she was reading her speech. Saying "to my parents and I" is simply unforgivable. But maybe it does prove her point of having some bad teachers. Evidently at least one of them taught English.

10. This kind of grammatical error is like fingernails scratching on a chalkboard.

Also, "Me and my friends went to the mall," "I seen the tornado coming at us," and "Myself and Judy are getting married."

Augh!

12. I know! and it's probably too late for her to ever learn the difference. That stuff should have been

covered by 6th grade.

4. Important Lesson

Some older people in authority ignore younger people under their responsibility, thinking they can hide from their political and commercial bosses.

Bad move. Some kids know what's going on, and the cheers from the students shows they respond to the truth on the ground.

We must nurture propaganda-resistant children, so they learn early how to approach Fox News with a gigantic degree of skepticism, not trust.

5. Brutal and unnecessary. There are much better ways to do this rather than taint the ceremony.

6. Read the full story on WaPo

It includes a tone-deaf response by a school district administrator. Not to mention, there are 2.5K comments.

Back to the official response: it probably still baffles them how parents get so fed up with fighting the bureaucracy that they consider charter schools an option. I am by no means an advocate of the corporations who divert tax dollars into their coffers and pretend they’re part of the solution. Just saying that public school officials need a rude awakening like this to realize that they need to change their system if they want to survive.

7. That was a bit cruel. Especially the bit about the alcoholic teacher.

The teacher had/has a problem and does not deserve to be shamed in public. I hope this teacher gets help, but calling them out like this is in no way, shape or form helpful or beneficial to anybody. She may be smart, but she has very little emotional intelligence. She lacks empathy and compassion.

11. Why You Gotta Rock The Boat? Just Pretend Nothing's Wrong!! /s

I mean, it worked for the Vatican!! (/sarcasm, obviously)

"Asking questions in school is a great way to learn
If you try that stuff here you might get your legs broke
We once found a dead guy face down in the Slurm
It could easily happen again to you folks
So keep your head down
And keep your mouth shut
Grunka Lunka Lunka dunkety dutt!" -- Futurama
