The easy, inexpensive way the Czech Republic got Covid-19 under control: Masks4All

Home sewn masks, especially ones that hold filters and have twist ties sewn in to act as nose clips, will work to help protect you and other people. You should consider making some, if not for our nurses, for yourself. Here's how to sew one in about 10-20 minutes: http://xobonmag.com/project/fabric-face-mask/

I don't think Americans will be as cooperative as the people from the Czech Republic, but any amount would help.

most under control, China, Taiwan, and South Korea, and pretty much everyone is wearing masks. I understand why some were saying for the general public not to wear masks a few weeks ago, because the professional masks were in short supply and the medical people need them more, but they should have told the rest of us to start making homemade stuff right away.

I hope it gets to the point that it is in those countries, where it is seen as anti-social to NOT where a mask during an outbreak.

But that would be admitting that there is a problem and they didn't want to do that until they could get all their stocks taken care of, as well as the profiteers needed to get their act together with tests, PPE, etc.

So what we do at this time is tell everyone - Masks Work.

Use clips. Other than that, this is a simple and most straightforward mask making pattern I've found.

And why do you suggest not using pins? Is it because you might sew over them and break your sewing needle?

I used the really small binder clips. I don't like that the pins put holes in the fabric - kind of defeats the purpose, even with the insert.

I see there's a pattern. This is a good watch, because it tells you almost everything you'd want to know about the what, where and how of the whole pandemic and what you can do, this is worth the time to watch.

Thanks for adding the pattern link!

Loved how the Czechs made cheery, colorful homemade cloth masks. And loved the colorful "mask tree" for the neighborhood, so thoughtful and smart. We have a couple sewers in my neighborhood making cloth masks for nurses who had asked them to make a bunch for the local hospital.

making some out of bandanas and something else wrapped in them. I have fabric, I just didn't know what would work, this had plenty of info to make your own decision about what to use. Lots of options. I don't sew and I also don't go out much so I was hoping for something simple for when I go to town for groceries.
