I recall the notion that Keith Olbermann's 'Countdown' show soared quickly to great viewership numbers both because of the strong content, but because of the need for its subject. Bush was in office and America lacked a strong voice against his presidency in any meaningful way -- until Keith's show surfaced. It was a hit.

So does FoxNews see supporting a Romney presidency as a 'bad business decision'? More importantly, could Murdock be directing things at FoxNews so that not only does his network achieve protection from losing viewership for the next 4 years (a long haul by any economic standards) but continues to be a place where those angry at the Democratic government are able to go, argue and fight ... with ratings to show for it?

It makes sense to me. Afterall, there are now hundreds of opportunities with online blogs, podcasts and the like for disaffected Republicans to get their 'news-opinion' fed to them, and the only difference would be a matter of convenience. Turn on the TV and there you are. If the next 4 years continues to move further and further away from TV as being the source of political discussion/interaction, this next upcoming period could prove critical to the demise or survival of FoxNews. Free market, and all that. If a GOP'er were to find themselves in the Whitehouse, there would be little reason to tune into FoxNews any longer. Nothing to yell at. Life now can go on. In a year, FoxNews could sink in ratings so badly that the network in theory could reach financial ruin. A year is an incredibly long time for a network to survive on nothing but fumes.

So, that question is worth asking, especially considering how it sounds to NOT be reflecting the way the Republican primaries were going -- as only 25% of the GOP primary electorate was supporting Romney.... yet somehow here we find ourselves with Romney as their final candidate. Uh, er, now how did that happen again?

Seems to me free market principles of profit and maintaining a business by a capitalist juggernaut may just be trumping Republican's wish for the president they always wanted... or in fact, for ANY president from their party.

Go FoxNews! You're doing a heckuva job, Murdock!
