seems to be it was just one interview. It would be a bit unfair to focus only on one interview, maybe the participants didn't get along, maybe the author had an agenda, maybe JW was high. I don't know but give him at least the courtesy of a broader investigation?
My question was there any other evidence of JW's racism outside that interview?
Are there other interviews, mentions of racism in books of the times, biographies of contemporaries or writings of JW himself that would corroborate?

2. Native Americans were depicted as savages in his movies

Pretty much the universal theme in his westerns was Native Americans were good if they helped the white man, but otherwise they were murderous animals who raped, pillaged, and attacked white people at every opportunity. Certainly Wayne didn’t invent these myths, but he certainly perpetuated them. For that alone he shouldn’t be honored for anything.

6. Just one interview? How many times does someone need to say something before we believe?

If someone tells you who they are, believe them. It isn't a mistake or needing more investigation.

Most people don't make racist statements just because they don't get along with their interviewer.
