If anyone has wondered how the political climate in this country got to be the way it is today, this film shows EXACTLY how it happened. In my view this is a must see for everyone.

for substituting schoolyard bullying for politics. Everybody else jumped on that bandwagon, including the hideous Luntz.

My own parents had a mercifully brief flirtation with that crap in the 89s, when his short lived TV show was on. I visited them once during that period and found my parents had turned into a couple of ranters. They'd get wound up and I'd leave, go for a walk, whatever. When I got back I'd just ask them if they were [i[done.[/i[ They got the point and kept it down to a dull roar and I didn't have to decamp to a motel until I could fly back home.

Fortunately, they both realized Pox News was for utter morons, so I was spared that.

ETA: There are some people I find so thoroughly reprehensible that I won't spell their names out because I don't want to give them web hits and Google advertising.

My best and longest friend, when we got out of the Army, was as liberal as I am. He's a carpenter, and they had Limbaugh roaring on the radio at the jobsite every day. Over many years, three hours a day, every day, he turned into a rabid republican toadie. We're still good friends, only because we both refrain from discussing politics altogether.

and cut people off when they start on politcs, religion, or sex kink. There are just some things I don't want to know unless I've known the person very well for a long time, and even then, I'd rather avoid it.

Part of it comes from working retail and being used as a confessional. Part of it comes from being a nurse and being used as a confessional. Really, people, I just don't want to know. Some things are private. Please keep them that way.

I think the key to key to coping with other people is blissful ignorance, keeping one's illusions intact.
