(11,730 posts)They love a version of America that never really existed but which they wish, did exist. A White male dominated America, A Christian (and this Christianity would get narrower and narrower) America. An America ruled by the wealthy and policed by White male flunkies. Republicans do not love America, with all of its warts and bumps and potential. They love a fantasy version of America.
Republicans love cancel culture. Conservatives have tried to cancel EVERY SINGLE MOVEMENT that has challenged the authority of a White Christian Male dominated society. They tried to cancel Native Americans, they tried to cancel every civil rights movement from Black, to Brown, to women's rights, to even White people who just want fair wages and to benefit from the fruits of their labor. They cancelled Hollywood actors for alleged ties to Communism, they tried to cancel average Americans who opposed the unnecessary wars in Vietnam and Iraq. They regularly try to cancel entertainment and art that challenges their ideas of what is appropriate. They love cancel culture, they just hate it when people have legitimate concerns with oppression and start speaking out against conservative ideas.
They don't care about the size of government, only its function. They would not mind a large government for the purposes of forcing everyone else to live the "conservative way". They think smaller government is better because smaller government is easier to ignore. If government doesn't have teeth to stop the wealthy from exploiting everyone else, that is a good thing to them. If corporate money could counter government power, that is ideal for them.

(18,624 posts)They can say they've watched their last NASCAR race and that they're done with baseball. But the tracks will sell out the season and baseball ratings will be higher than ever in light of Covid distancing.
I'm sure they'll boycott the NFL until the fall though, and if they want a damn Coke, nobody's looking are they?
