General Milley: "I've read Karl Marx. I've read Lenin. That doesn't make me a communist."

(6,169 posts)Was it the idea of studying critical race theory, or the General suggesting an investigation into, not just the events of January 6th, but into the root causes of the attack on our government?
Is the mentality that brought the horrors of slavery to this nation, and now wants to deny it, the same mentality that fueled the insurrection, and now wants to cancel any real examination of it?
General Milley says we need to understand our enemies. Perhaps that requires an in-depth examination of the Republican Party, and the radical right that they have cultivated and embraced?
How deeply are they intertwined?
Sounds like Ingraham has good reason to fear General Milley.

(10,828 posts)So, our dueling ad/message is:
Stop the Defund the Military movement.
Take all that noise the GOP threw on Defund the Police and throw it back at them x 1000.
The counter messaging writes itself.
Doesn't matter whether we think the military budget is actually over-the-top. We let them eat their own words on a subject they always gloat over: how much they support the military, yada, yada.
a Lincoln Project ad should be put out there addressing this.
Or Rachel Bitecofer's Strike Pac. Or Meidas Touch.
All the the ad makers that charged the ether and rattled TVs in 2020.
All of them!

(14,173 posts)It reminds me of the weeks and months after 9/11. If any network, let alone FOX, ever dared to ask why, to ever suggest that there was some reason behind it...besides pure lunatic baseless aggression because they "hate our freedom" whatever that means, was not tolerated. Any kind of digging into questions surrounding the notion that there must have been some perceived wrong that the terrorists felt they were righting. What was that wrong? Why would they do that? How does radicalization of young Muslims start? With the thought that we must understand the WHY, even if we obviously disagree with their response to the WHY, in order to fight against it in the future.
I remember how that kind of reasoning was simply not allowed on network TV. Bill Maher's comments simply implying that it took guts to fly into a building, was even going too far in trying to understand them, and be honest. The terrorists had to be portrayed as automated machines programmed by the evil Islamic anti-Christian anti-Israeli Godless turban wearing brown terrorist leaders. There was no actual reason. They attacked simply because they are bad machines. Now move on.

(12,582 posts)The Republicans held 33 hearings and spent $7 million dollars on this clusterf*ck. Kevin McCarthy said the purpose of spending so much attention and money was to drive down Hillary Clinton's poll numbers.
Now the QGOP is saying it would be "political" to create a bipartisan commission, and besides, it's too late to get any useful information because people forget. Yeah, you really forget the details of being assaulted by an angry mob, an event that happened less than seven months ago. Besides, the QGOP is the reason the time is being dragged out. Of course, they did the same thing with the 9/11 commission. Both events occurred while a Republican was in the WH -- I wonder if that might have something to do with it.

The military is their sweetheart. They're the ones who coined "thank you for your service" to promote the Iraq War, now they want to cut their nuts off.
