(24,523 posts)Eric Holder gives me some hope although the battle will be long and hard. Forever minority rule is the republican dream and they will not give it up easily.

(204,779 posts)This country made so much hard fought progress from the civil rights struggles of the '60s to electing one of our most popular presidents who was black - and now we're facing a regression caused by the bigotry of Trump. I have Mary Trump's new book and she talks abut this a lot, so it's been on my mind.

Here in GA the legislature is trying to take over the election process in the large Democratic fortress of Fulton County, and I'm sure they will go after other Democratic cities. I hope that Eric Holder is right that there are remnants of the Voting Rights Act that can still be used by DOJ.

(204,779 posts)But it's got to be a tremendous uphill battle, there is so much to fix, reinstate and set to rights. But at the same time, we have these empowered factions all over the country who are attempting to continue and expand the damage to American rights espoused by TFG. It's only been a few months, and there has been some amazing progress, but there is just so much. I don't know how President Biden does it, just reading his schedule exhausts me...

(204,779 posts)And not only are they still gerrymandering, but they're implementing all sorts of even more blatant efforts at voter repression. The Biden administration has taken action to eliminate what they can, but they just keep at it - and the extent of it is unprecedented. The aim has to be to eliminate as much of it as we can before the 2022 election.
