So if you're on facebook, you're supporting hate.

I know the excuses; "but my aunts and uncles and long lost high school buddies re on facebook." That means you need to educate THEM to the harm facebook is doing, and to let them know that if they want to connect with you, they have your email address. They don't need to keep putting money in Zuckerberg's pockets as a substitute for writing you an email now and then.

I connected with a long lost friend on fb, but now we email each other directly a couple times a week. A personal email means a lot more than some lazy post to shotgun everyone you know. If your contacts are worth contacting, then they are worth contacting personally, by email. Anything less is cold, impersonal and meaningless.

So be it.

The important people in my life stay in touch via telephone, text, email, video chat, and -- yes, sometimes they even fire up their horse and buggy and meet up with me in person.

Fortunately, I have a lot of relatives and good friends who don't need the Zuckerverse to stay in touch.

And to those whose excuse is the FB forums -- there are lot of other message boards for learning and forming online communities. I never got sucked into the Facebook vortex, but I hope more people are escaping the undertow. And I really hope the company faces some meaningful consequences for its unethical business practices.
