1. This really does not surprise me. None of that societal gender stereotyping--

4. This is not true at all, in my experience, and from talking to dozens of other children

of gay people through COLAGE. Our parents are just as capable of gender stereotyping as anyone. They're human, and flawed, just like everyone else.

People are people are people. Gay people don't have to be special. They just have to be recognized as full human beings.

NO ONE is free of bias or socially acquired stereotypes. That said, as with the case of many young girls excelling more during formative years in same-gender schools, there can be a benefit or at least alternate issues.

I feel very much attacked by your response to me and the assumptions made sans any apparent attempt to understand my post (or ask for clarification if necessary) of what I was saying. So, I won't be responding further. I gather you have some personal issues with this. So, I'm sorry if this triggered you.

8. Most girls do have very stereotypical expectations from a male parent--however unintentional.

Every female I have ever known had to deal with this--no matter how loving the father or assertive the mother--changing over the decades, surely, but still present. And, of course, there is nothing that says the mother might not be similarly perpetuating gender-based stereotypes in that situation.

Obviously, gender-specific societal stereotypes can be held by either gender parent, in heterosexual or same-sex parental partnerships. Still, I would not be surprised that there would be trend differences--whether for better or not-- in the different settings.

3. As the daughter of a gay man, I don't think we should push silly studies like this.

Gay people don't have to be considered better than other people -- just their equal.

Studies like the one cited in the video are affected by confounding variables. The gay parents studied were wealthier, older, and more educated than different sex parents -- all factors that support success in schools for children. So it isn't having gay parents that makes the kids more successful. It's having wealthier, mature, and educated parents.

Same-sex couples often have to use expensive fertility treatments to have a child, meaning they are very motivated to become parents and tend to have a high level of wealth. This is likely to be a key reason their children perform well in school, the economists found.

“It is difficult for same-sex couples to obtain children so they have to have a high socioeconomic status," said Mazrekaj, who presented the research at the American Economic Association conference in Atlanta in January. "Research shows that socio-economic status positively influences the school outcome of children.”

6. What you just said, is pretty much what I got from the video.

It seemed to focus on the fact that people who chose to adopt, whether gay or straight, are in a better position to take care of kids and can't have kids by accident. It hits on this around the 7 minute mark.
