Thats a tidy sum for a 44-year-old second-generation American. But its less than the net worth of many of the career politicians Yang is running against. And its miles behind his entrepreneurial rivals Michael Bennet ($15 million), John Delaney ($200 million) and Tom Steyer ($1.6 billion).
Yang lives in a two-bedroom rental in midtown Manhattan, but his largest asset is a 2,700-square-foot home on a quiet block in New Paltz, New York (about 70 miles north of New York City), worth about $500,000. The rest of his fortune is largely tied up in an average joes investment portfoliocash accounts and diversified mutual funds. Besides small holdings in Lending Club and Google stock, his financial disclosure form reveals just one Silicon Valley investment: a $15,000 to $50,000 stake in an entity called Hustle Fund I, LP, part of a small venture capital fund that invests in hilariously early startups.

(8,282 posts)I think he brings up a lot of critical points in this 18 minutes. He states clearly that the direction we're going is at risk of failing because it's set up to fail!
I've been on DU long enough to see it too. The opposing sides hate each other and this is a disaster and it's affecting the world;s democratic societies. We need to consider his points and listen to them at least long enough to give them some thoughts. The current economy model is unsustainable.
I am really shocked at the comments on this post. He has a vision for America and he's trying something different. Call him a loser all you want but he's seeing things that I see from abroad and I'm not happy about it. I may never come back to the states to live because I see nothing but failure from the current system. And if 45 becomes 47, you can bet, I will never step foot in the states again.

(43,299 posts)commenting on any American politician who is not a member of, or affiliated with, the US Democratic Party. It is a core bedrock part of the TOS for the board, so any promotion/praising of non US Democrats (again in regards to American politics) or Democratic-affiliated pols (like Sanders or Angus King) is not going to end well here.
IF Yang (and/or other candidates) siphons off enough voters, who if not for his candidacy would have otherwise voted for the Democratic POTUS candidate, you just might see that nightmare occur.

45 being elected was the start of this horror show.

(43,299 posts)was crushed. That is when the rise of the modern christo-fascist, white power infused modern Rethug party paradigm was first set into motion. The Nixonian southern strategy, the embryonic fundie xian power plays, the bottom-up gaming of the electoral map from local, up to state, up to national levels, the mainstreaming of RW crackpot conspiracy theory, and the intertwining and financing of it via the RW economic uber-class of systemic controllers. All that started with a trickle back then, and soon turned into a blueprint for a synergistic deluge of shitbaggery 50 years in the making, culminating June 16, 2015, with that fateful escalator ride down into the lobby of Trump Tower.
