Tucson Police Officer Shoots Man In A Wheelchair 9 Times In The Back

Warning: Very Graphic

A Tucson Police officer has been fired after a deadly officer-involved shooting on Valencia Road Monday evening.

Just before 6 p.m., a theft was reported to an off-duty officer who was working a special duty assignment at Walmart on Valencia Road, near Oak Tree Drive, according to the department.

A Walmart employee reported to the off-duty officer that a man in a motorized wheelchair had stolen a tool box. According to the employee, he caught up with the suspect in the parking lot to ask for a receipt, during the exchange the suspect brandished a knife.

Off-duty officer Ryan Remington went to the parking lot and asked the suspect to surrender his knife but he refused, according to the department. The suspect then continued through the Walmart parking lot and started to enter the garden center-area at a nearby Lowe's, during that time another officer arrived at the scene to assist.

Both officers had told the suspect not to enter the store; however, the suspect did not comply with the orders and Ofc. Remington fired nine rounds, striking him in the back and side, resulting in the suspect falling out of his chair onto the ground.

Officers did render aid to the suspect but he was pronounced dead at the scene, police say. The suspect was identified as 61-year-old Richard Lee Richards.

Nine times into a wheelchair suspect..really? Whatever the offense., could it not have been dealt with more professionalism?

No indication if he actually tried to stab anyone in that exchange, but if he did, that might be said to be SLIGHTLY mitigating.

Cops really think their lives are more valuable than anyone else's, and that's underlying fucked up part.

These fucking cops are totally out of control, and the fucking courts condone it.

Do away with qualified immunity tomorrow and these fucking killer cops would be charged and convicted of murder, and this shit would stop within 5-10 years.

THE COPS ARE OUT OF CONTROL. This HAS to stop.

9, NINE, let me repeat...NINE shots in the back of someone in a wheelchair...That's first degree murder.

Fuck that cop. Send him to general population for the rest of his life. See how that works out for him. Fucking murderer.

the taser, bean bags, billy sticks, pulling him out of chair, ramming him with a wheelbarrow, clearing the way of people in store, etc.

If he had a gun and/or wasn’t in a wheelchair, might feel differently.

a cop shooting an elderly man in a wheelchair nine times from behind simply for not stopping, and less than a second after coming on the scene and ordering him to do so. There's nothing on the video that indicates the victim was wielding a knife or threatening anyone. It's absolutely sickening to watch.

I just watched it several more times. The female cop who exited the vehicle ran up, yelled "stop" and the nine gunshots immediately ring out. The male cop only waited a couple of seconds after telling the man not to enter the store before opening fire. It's even more barbaric after watching it several times.

connected with the headrest ... and that chair would've flipped forward and the suspect would've spilled out onto the walkway.

It'd be no problem to do that, good size man, running at a decent clip.

But NO!

They might risk a little bit of injury to themselves, so instead they gotta pump the disabled guy full of lead.
