We're living through a global pandemic. No one is getting through this without any adverse effects. The only thing we can do is choose the effects that have the fewest and least severe long term consequences.

Maybe we could give their slot to their nurse or parent?

I am a retired mental health professional. From time to time when I was in practice, a medical professional or family would call me concerned that a medical procedure might do some psychological damage.

The first thing I would ask is what happens if you don't do the procedure?
When I got an answer saying the patient could die, I always said "you keep the patient alive, I will take care of the psych issues afterwards."

Seems obvious to me.

You can’t separate the effects of school closures from the effects of the pandemic because they happen at the same time. This is spinning data to support keeping schools open.
