Republicans were OK with democracy. But they realize that there's only so far they can go in perpetuating minority rule with their underhanded gerrymandering and voter suppression laws, and rather that face that end squarely and honestly, they prefer to subvert democracy itself. The Republican party has long outlived its usefulness to American democracy; the ideal outcome would be for them to go the way of their predecessors, the Whigs, and let a new party take their place. They aren't going to see the light or have their come to Jesus moment - it'll never happen.

Democracy is fine as long as the right has the majority, but when the left gets the majority, suddenly Confederate Republicans go to extreme lengths to undermine, obstruct, overturn the will of the majority, even invent Stalinesque rules so they're the only ones allowed to rule, and falsely paint mainstream Democrats as inherently illegitimate.

Republicans are nothing but racist, bigoted tyrants, with very few exceptions.
