I hate commercials, rarely do I see them. But somehow I was not quick enough on the fast forward button and saw it. Cracked me up!!!

There was a time, twenty years ago, when United would engage in predatory pricing to drive discount carriers out of the market, and then jack their prices back up. The result was that flights from Omaha or KC were far cheaper than from Des Moines. My BiL did not believe this.

When my little sister was getting married in San Francisco, I checked prices at the three airports. KC and Omaha were about the same; Des Moines was nearly three times the price. Sooo, my wife, our daughter and I drove to Omaha, had dinner, stayed overnight, and flew to San Francisco early the next morning.

My sister and BiL flew from Des Moines. My BiL was giving us shit about driving a hundred miles instead of using the local airport. I told him the savings was more than worth it. When he scoffed, I asked what their tickets cost. “$600 each.” So they had paid $1200. I told him our tickets were $222 each. So even with gas, parking, dinner and a motel we’d still spent substantially less for the three of us, than they had for 2.

He looked like I’d hit him in the face with a shovel.
