Anne Applebaum is a staff writer for The Atlantic and a Pulitzer Prize-winning historian. Her latest article, "There Is No Liberal World Order," argues that unless democracies defend themselves together, the forces of autocracy will destroy them. She joins Michel Martin to discuss this existential struggle.

Well worth watching. One of the best, most factual and truthful reviews of the biggest global political challenge we've ever seen including wars because with this enemy, we're suffering from a long-standing slow-growing deadly global cancer.

As she says, this is a mostly invisible foe whereas in war, you at least know and can see the enemy. This foe also does not give a tinker's damn about the future of our planet.

These days it seems like we're overwhelmed with breaking news - we do need all hands on deck - and when I recommend DU to others I always say that DU is the best for breaking news on the internets.

BTW, my AA anniversary is April 30th. It's hard to believe since it took me awhile to get it, I first showed up in November 2008 but my official date is 2009. However I share the April 30th date with the senior member of my group now (my long time home group has been shut down since March 2020 because of the pandemic, it was at a treatment facility) whose date is April 30th, 1976!
