I knew he was a shitty person and a liar but seriously golf is a game played against yourself, your potential and the course. Cheating or shaving strokes or claiming to be that which you are clearly not is a serious character flaw indicator. One reason that many people in business paly golf is to assess the character of people they are considering doing business with - at least when I play (which is rare due to the time commitment and cost of playing constantly) I notice what other people in my group do and mentally catalogue it all.

A person who cheats when money is on the line is a crook and thief and should never be trusted.
A person who cheats when nothing but ego and pride are on the line is simply pathetic and insecure.
A person who cheats regardless of the scenario and brags to others about it is a mentally ill individual 1.
