Iran: President orders probe of poisoning at girls' schools - Al Jazeera (2 videos)



Schoolgirls from 10 institutes in the Iranian capital Tehran have been admitted to hospital after a mysterious poisoning. The President has asked the Interior Ministry to investigate the matter. It is the latest in a spate of attacks that appear to be deliberate and have parents fearing for their children's safety.

but it's absolutely not going to play well in Tehran or any of the other cities.

It would be fascinating to know what's delivering the gas. Since they mentioned nitrogen, I have to wonder if it's something like nitrogen oxide, which would certainly cause breathing problems in high concentrations. Unlike nerve gas, it has an odor. Unlike chlorine, it doesn't cause blistering. Now what they need to do is find out how it got in there. It will undoubtedly be a sharp eyed student or female teacher who figures it out, I doubt male police are particularly motivated.

It seems more aimed at keeping parents and students too afraid of school rather than to hurt or kill.

I suspect some out of work morality police, on furlough while the government waits for women to forget about their civil rights and go back to the kitchen.
