Medigap is the supplemental insurance that covers the 20% that Medicare does not cover. Private for-profit insurance is starting to scam seniors similarly to how they scammed Medicare Advantage recipients.

(57,073 posts)Provider.
Prices vary widely & each Plan level of gap insurance is required to offer identical coverage.
I chose the highest level of gap ins offered, even includes deductible.
Some providers were charging nearly $300/mo for this!
Farm Bureau ins came in at $115/month.
And my policy for gap is NOT a scam!
Avoid Advantage plans! Providers must be "in network" & many hospitals do not accept Advantage plans.
And if you have Advantage & want to switch to normal Medicare, you might be required to pass a physical!

(11,868 posts)Thart means the only non scam option is standard Medicare that pays 80% leaving the recipient to cover the remaining 20% deductible.
Hope no one needs any expensive care then, as they will need to pay thousands and tens of thousands of dollars out of pocket.

(2,336 posts)I flat-out refuse to give my estate to the medical establishment so yes, I have a private supplement. Medicare also has upper limits, my supplement does not. For now, I'm sticking with the supplement. I also do not travel, so that's not a consideration for me.

(2,278 posts)You just shop for the cheapest Medigap Plan F/G for yourself, and buy it. Pretty simple.

Glad we had gap coverage along with Medicare. Recent post-age 65 injuries would have devastated our funds without it!

(14 posts)MBA's will be deciding what care you get, doctors can pull out of the network anytime, but you will have to wait for the 10/15 to 12/7 open enrollment period. Medigap coverage with no health question happens when you first enroll in Medicare. Medigap also known as Supplemental Medicare insurance was standardized in 2011 and all coverage is the same all across the country. Plan G is a Plan G, Plan N is a Plan N no matter the carrier. I am a Medicare sales agent and have a MBA degree.

(2,944 posts)will not affect their bottom line. The care the dr. provides is the same. When sitting in the doctor's office waiting for your appointment I can bet that the patients are a mixed bag of Medigap and MA insurance holders.
This situation has been obvious for years and Congress has ignored it and/or only paid lip service.
Why bother to elect Ds to Congress when they don't flex enough muscle when they have the power to reign in this scam and others?
It will take prosecuting and jailing corporate executives for this theft before any change will occur. But that is unlikely to happen.
The insurance companies are shifting to scamming those with Medigap policies because of the exposure of their scams with MA.
When Medigap premiums are too expensive what alternative will there be for coverage but MA?
Congress needs to fix the rules before corporations will change their behavior.

(4,552 posts)I called and they explained that I owed what Medicare did not pay. I said you have my secondary insurance, you have billed them in the past. Then I get double talk. They are just trying to double dip. Another scam.
