I was struck by Matthews saying that Barnes is a "really soiid Democrat. Really? If he's such a solid Democrat, why did he sit on this information for 43 years, releasing it only when nearly all of the principal players are dead?

In the Times' article, it mentions that Barnes was trying to "make amends" now that Jimmy Carter is in hospice care. But the real damage wasn't to Jimmy Carter; the real damage was to the American people, and most especially to the hostages and their families, whose suffering was prolonged. And there's really no making amends for that!

Not a fan of Matthews. His clumsy assertion about Barnes being a good Dem is typical of him.
Barnes literally stood by and watched and heard John Conley destroy Carter’s re-election.

Starting (of course) with Gary's last name.

But then - miscreants have always used ridicule to try to shut down uncomfortable truths.

(and needless to say, all this goes much deeper than John Connally)
