I just wonder who is going to rescue him from this narcissistic collapse. I imagine Melania and his eldest children helped him out in the last one, he seems to have tuned on them to the point only Jr. has been in evidence, at all, and not very much of it.

Raging narcissists do that to people around them again and again. They turn on anyone who's seen them weak and weepy, like it's all their fault somehow.

TFG is a malignant narcissist, which layers on a need to wreak vengeance against anyone who has seen him in collapse, especially if they have helped him out of it. It might be why Melania has been scarce lately. You know, somebody else can do the dirty work this time.

I wouldn't be surprise if TFG takes after his dad in that way as well...

but he's been such a crazy salad (sorry) of raging personality disorder and likely drugs before he rambles at his rallies that it's hard to sort out. i have seen him make more sense from time to time than he ever has before his adoring masses. Perseveration and confabulation are hard to cover for, and I've seen them both.

He's got years before it becomes glaringly obvious to civilians.

Fred suffered from Alzheimer's, something which might not ever happen to TFG.

They lie in the moment to impress whoever is around. They contradict themselves in the next moment. It's all the same to them, a way to keep that rosy glow of positive attention entirely on themselves. Consistency is for dullards. Anyone who expects them to demonstrate it is an enemy and must be punished.
