Air India has sent a replacement aircraft with food and essentials for passengers stranded in the far east of Russia, after a flight from New Delhi to San Francisco was forced to make an emergency landing due to an engine malfunction. 216 passengers and 16 crew were on board the Boeing 777. According to Indian media reports, many US citizens on board were worried about landing in Russia, given tensions between Moscow and Washington. Russia has banned airlines from numerous Western countries from operating in its airspace.

The airport appears modern and well used.
Wonder Why
(3,115 posts)No planes with a flight plan that includes flying over Russia should be allowed to come to US Airports
Any Airline doing this should be banned from US airports
American citizens who fly on airlines that are banned from U.S. airports are told they are on their own if they run into this type of problem.
The fact is that some airlines (no U.S. ones as they are all complaining about it) do this because the flight path makes for lower costs and so they are undercutting airlines that will not or are banned from flying over Russia. Russia collects a fee for the overflights.

Raman Pratasevichs dramatic arrest in May 2021 elicited outrage in the West, with some leaders saying the planes diversion was tantamount to state-sponsored hijacking."
It's not how the Russian people would treat passengers. It's about the Russian government.
And remember MH17.
