Air India plane from New Delhi to San Francisco lands in Russia after engine problem - CNA

Air India has sent a replacement aircraft with food and essentials for passengers stranded in the far east of Russia, after a flight from New Delhi to San Francisco was forced to make an emergency landing due to an engine malfunction. 216 passengers and 16 crew were on board the Boeing 777. According to Indian media reports, many US citizens on board were worried about landing in Russia, given tensions between Moscow and Washington. Russia has banned airlines from numerous Western countries from operating in its airspace.

Most aircraft parts cannot be exported to Russia. An exception would have to be made.

No planes with a flight plan that includes flying over Russia should be allowed to come to US Airports

Any Airline doing this should be banned from US airports

American citizens who fly on airlines that are banned from U.S. airports are told they are on their own if they run into this type of problem.

The fact is that some airlines (no U.S. ones as they are all complaining about it) do this because the flight path makes for lower costs and so they are undercutting airlines that will not or are banned from flying over Russia. Russia collects a fee for the overflights.

flying over Russia a security risk! Duh!

"Russia has barred U.S. airlines and other foreign carriers from flying over its airspace, in retaliation for Washington banning Russian flights over the U.S. in March 2022 after the country invaded Ukraine."

"United Airlines Holdings Inc. Chief Executive Officer Scott Kirby said flying over Russia constitutes a risk that many carriers including his own won’t take, while airlines from China or India enjoy a competitive advantage as they continue to traverse the airspace."

unscheduled landing in Belarus and Navalny being taken off a plane after it was re-directed. I just don't trust Russia and not sure I would want to be on a plane anywhere near their airspace. Thankfully nothing happened, thanks for letting me know. Too much news to catch up on.

AP: "A court in Belarus convicted a dissident journalist who was arrested after being pulled off a commercial flight that was diverted to the country and sentenced him Wednesday to eight years in prison.

Raman Pratasevich’s dramatic arrest in May 2021 elicited outrage in the West, with some leaders saying the plane’s diversion was tantamount to state-sponsored hijacking."

It's not how the Russian people would treat passengers. It's about the Russian government.

And remember MH17.
