(6,234 posts)This is a listing of every point he made:
* I am fired up about liberty, the second amendment is only one small part
* Globalists run our government and plan to bankrupt our country
* America is passive, in a trance...With Drone killings, Secret arrests, NDAA, Banker Bailouts, Wall Street Corruption
* It's time to get a pulse again! It's time to get mad and say: 'I'm a human being, my life has value.'
* I want you to get mad, I want you to realize that the American dream is becoming a nightmare.
* Our liberties are being systematically eradicated. Major universities call us one of the worst police states in the world.
* They are openly trying to curtail internet freedom.
* Global mega-banks are exempt from all the laws, don't even hardly pay taxes, but lobby to raise taxes on us here domestically so that they can extract our wealth in corporate welfare.
* Learn about the New World Order.
* Learn about the globalists and how they fund Fascist, Communist, and Socialist regimes -- anything that's centralized.
* Learn about eugenics and the cancer viruses, vaccines, the GMO designed to sterilize you, learn!
* They put poison in the water.
* Anger is a normal response to this. This is how we should have responded to Hitler.
* We're in danger.
* They control both parties, wake up!
The question in my mind is this: if Howard Dean or Joe Biden or some other Democratic party leader had come out and given the same speech -- perhaps a little less aggressively -- what would our reaction be?

(6,234 posts)I really don't know much about the guy other than that he has been around saying this stuff forever. I believe he was the person behind the 9-11 conspiracy movie "Loose Change." In any case, one thing is sure, the guy is NOT a Republican. He despises BOTH parties and the feeling is clearly mutual.
I want to be clear: I am not suggesting that anyone run out and become an Alex Jones fan!
I found it interesting that here is a guy saying things that are largely correct, and expressing sentiments that aren't far from what you see regularly posted here, and yet his comments were instantly dismissed. Let's review his positions:
* I am fired up about liberty, the second amendment is only one small part
Me too!
* Globalists run our government and plan to bankrupt our country
Yeah, pretty much.
* America is passive, in a trance...With Drone killings, Secret arrests, NDAA, Banker Bailouts, Wall Street Corruption
I agree!
* It's time to get a pulse again! It's time to get mad and say: 'I'm a human being, my life has value.'
You mean everyone and not just the 1%? That's heresy sir!
* I want you to get mad, I want you to realize that the American dream is becoming a nightmare.
The dream has always been bullshit for most, but I agree.
* Our liberties are being systematically eradicated. Major universities call us one of the worst police states in the world.
Secret prisons, domestic spying that would make Big Brother blush, indefinate detainment without trial, government sanctioned murder without a trial, torture... I could go on but someone's at the door.
* They are openly trying to curtail internet freedom.
Yes they are. The internet is the LAST HOPE for the future.
* Global mega-banks are exempt from all the laws, don't even hardly pay taxes, but lobby to raise taxes on us here domestically so that they can extract our wealth in corporate welfare.
Again, correct. And both parties are helping them.
* Learn about the New World Order.
Wat?
* Learn about the globalists and how they fund Fascist, Communist, and Socialist regimes -- anything that's centralized.
We part ways here Alex, but it's possible your point doesn't reduce well to a soundbite.
* Learn about eugenics and the cancer viruses, vaccines, the GMO designed to sterilize you, learn!
I will if I have time. But it will probably depress me.
* They put poison in the water.
Only if there is a profit in it or minorities and poor people will guzzle it down.
* Anger is a normal response to this. This is how we should have responded to Hitler.
Anger would be good, yes.
* We're in danger.
Yes we are.
* They control both parties, wake up!
I am awake, and you are correct.

hell i agree with you on a lot of crap, except my belief is, its not some organization like Illuminati, but more or less our culture in the drivers seat.
"The question in my mind is this: if Howard Dean or Joe Biden or some other Democratic party leader had come out and given the same speech -- perhaps a little less aggressively -- what would our reaction be?"
Our reaction should be: LOUD applause.
Unfortunately, it is an increasing problem with both parties that a push for reduction in rights is at the forefront of their thinking. Has been ever since Bush and his "Patriot" Act.
People here at DU seem to not see any parallel in the Patriot Act and repealing the 2nd Amendment. They see no connection (progression) between the Patriot Act and the NDAA which Obama signed at the end of 2011. They protest the illegal wars of Bush, and make excuses for those same wars, and new ones, when they are Obama's.
The people of our country have lost any semblance of consistency. We are all rooting for our teams (Dem/Repub), and not remembering that everything should be focused on the idea that we are free people, not fans of "teams."
Jones is loud, but when you read the statements above, you'd have to be nuts yourself to oppose those ideas. When is the time to get mad and raise your voice? I guess we have all become passive. It reflects a country wide depressive attitude. "Be polite." "Be professional." If someone slaps you, don't get mad. Just be nice.

(3,991 posts)That's the issue I'm seeing with the conspiracy scene right now, its the false idea of the unified "they".
We ARE in trouble from various fronts. There's all kinds of bad things happening, all kinds of conspiracies go down every day. But the conspiracy culture demands this one unified "them" to be responsible for it. If you have power, and you aren't with the CT guys, you must be one of "them". Its gone to the point where people are accusing the grieving CT shooting families of complicity in conspiracy, because the conspiracy is seen to benefit "them". Also, threats from things like climate change can't be discussed in that scene, because its much harder to pin on "them", most analysis reveals the culprits are "us" and that thinking is too uncomfortable for that scene.
Obama and Biden wouldn't make a "them" point, because they work in terms of "we" and "us", that virtue brings them a lot power. Check out this video, most powerful point at about 12:00 in. Listen to how often the word "we" is used. The key moment is where he says "we need to change"
People aren't upset with Jones for questioning everything, we all should be doing that more often IMHO. They are upset at a person who has given up questioning, because the answer to every question has become "them", and pointing a finger of blame, often at innocent people who, when upon closer examination turn out to be very much like, and connected with us.

(91 posts)Are the "banks" a "them"? Are the 1%ers not a "they"?
Have we not learned anything from Occupy?
We have such amnesia in this country, not just only at DU.
...and I contest your idea that "CT" people can't accurately appropriate an idea of "them" into discussions of climate change. Sure, "we" are the problem in regards to destroying our environment. But tell me, will it be a 1%er who is capitalizing on methods to curb the problems we face, with ideas like "carbon taxes"? Who gets paid for all that? Who exploits the already poor to "fix" the problems we face? There is always a "them" if you follow the money.
napoleon_in_rags
(3,991 posts)So yes, there is a "them" who robbed a given bank for instance. The problem is that as soon as the CT scene finds evidence of something fishy, too many decide they know exactly who "they" are behind it without real evidence. Wise CT community members talk about TPTB, without pointing fingers at specific people. They know how much disinformation is flying around.
I'm drawn to John Stuart Mill's theory of Utilitarianism.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utilitarianism
"According to utilitarianism the moral worth of an action is determined only by its resulting outcome "
There's no room for "good guys" and "bad guys" in a utilitarian world view. There are outcomes which are bad, and outcomes which are positive. I don't hate the 1%, I hate the outcome which has the 99% doing more and more work for less and less pay. You'll see a similar philosophy historically guiding non-violent movements. Gandhi didn't hate the British at all, he hated the lack of Indian self-rule. The sin and not the sinner so to speak. I believe its a far more effective way to address world problems, rather than sitting around trying to figure out who the good guys and bad guys are all the time, and facing the moral ramifications when you're wrong.
reeds2012
(91 posts)...but if I can use a basketball analogy: The Lakers last night would be better off if they said "Durant" is killing us, rather than saying "the effect of the current momentum is that we are giving up a lot of points."
The latter is axiomatic, while the former designates the cause of the problem. The pursuit of trying to stop the identified problem should be the immediate focus.
napoleon_in_rags
(3,991 posts)This problem is that in this environment, it's rare to know anything with such certainty.
reeds2012
(91 posts)E.g., the banks have committed documented crime after crime, or had the laws re-written so as to prevent their implication/culpability.
Bush lied to get into Iraq. Torture. Foreign tribunalS have found him guilty. My argument here is that even when we know things with certainty, we do nothing about it. Good old Obama: "I want us to look forward, not back."
No Mr President, I WANT us to be a nation that respects the rule of law, so that this stuff is deeply discouraged from happening again.
Reading between the lines, the Obama admin intends to carry forward the same types of illegal and mischievous tactics, to protect the same interests as the admins that came before. And after Obama, the next president, whoever she/he is, will most likely carry forward the same things.
There is currently no of, by, or for the people...unless we are talking about that rare few.
napoleon_in_rags
(3,991 posts)Is that Bush is this superman, who single handedly got us into Iraq. There were no systemic intelligence failures, nothing else was involved. Same with Obama. Obama alone is supporting Bush, there are no systemic reasons for that, no pressures, no large scale corruption. It has nothing to do with the system, the way things are set up, its just the few "they" who are influencing everything.
I can't get behind that. I believe there are serious problems with the system, that essentially drag us all into repeating the same mistakes, regardless of our intentions. But so long as the focus is on "who" rather than "what", those problems will perpetuate regardless of who is in charge. I'm telling you: I think the real power is in focusing this system we're all part of rather than certain individuals.
reeds2012
(91 posts)by suggesting that if we go after the figureheads of the invisible ''they'' (invisible if we go along with your utilitarian method), then the figureheads would be more reluctant to serve those interests when consequences are sure to come down the pike.
If John "The Slime" Corzine gets in trouble and does jail time for stealing segregated accounts, the Goldman Sachs gang and the other similar banksters won't get as many zealous useful idiots to do "their" bidding.
This is an instance where hacking at the tail will curtail the deeds of the snake.

(19,877 posts)It is a variation on the FOX news propaganda technique where you mix in real news with fake news. Yes, Wall Street is fucked: FACT, then launches into nut-job conspiracies because he has your attention. Repetition works. <--THAT is the tactic. FOX news OTOH usually will report an actual news story followed by a "some people are saying" fabricated and heavily edited segment on BS, but because its mixed with real news before and after it MUST be true.

He talks at the beginning about the big bad government creating the unhealthy environment, creating a treatment for it, and milking the charities based on those for money. That's ... funny. That kinda sorta sounds like exactly what the pharmaceutical companies do. What we see, here, is a blown-up, massive scale, cognitive dissonance. He can actually see things that are wrong - and people above have noted there are things he sees which really are wrong with society - but they just don't fit with his brain-washed, right-wing, teabag nuttery, so his mind twists them and refocuses them towards phantom threats and creates all this rage.
The man needs serious help.

(12,618 posts)When push comes to shove, these Libertarian, free state types almost always vote for the Republican. Another thing I can't stand about people like Jones is they give people that have legitimate concerns about various conspiracy theories a bad name. Many people that question the official account of 9-11 or the Kennedy assassination are completely rational and sane. People like Jones make them all look like nuts. reeds2012
(91 posts)Call him crazy for 911 conspiracy theories, but Jones came out on the first day and said 911 was an inside job orchestrated by the Bush administration and criminal elements in the Military Industrial Complex. He criticized Bush every step of the way in those miserable 8 years.
Now, the power structure has in place a new "puppet" (as Jones describes it). The current president will of course come under great skepticism and scrutiny in Jones' analytic "system." So don't misrepresent Jones as someone who is soft on republicans but too hard on Democrats. That's what is wrong with a lot of the current debate. The debate should hinge on and be highlighting where Jones' system is looney, inaccurate, or accurate. We are talking about the historical lineage of where we come from and why people want to change things. There is enough there to discuss already without turning it into a left-leadership-against-right-leadership issue. Both parties have proponents for gun control. Jones will be the first to bring that up.
