(18,998 posts)and usually it don' work...and I don't think Quadraphonia was their best work....actually I think Tommy was...even though Tommy told a complex story it seemed to work better.
It was good and I enjoyed it...bought the album...but it was not their greatest.
And their greatest songs are on Who's Next.....I will always love Baba O'Riley..

(1,939 posts)I think it's a more complete idea carried through where Tommy really becomes a jumble of late sixty hippie ideals. I think quadraphenia holds tighter to the original idea.

(18,998 posts)But Tommy was simpler in it's concept and the music was more song like as opposed ot opera like.
Plus Tommy had a great overture to it.
Edited to add it.

(302 posts)The music on that album is what had made them "The Who." Between Tommy and Quadrophenia, I prefer Tommy. Its message was clear, while Quadrophenia was very ambiguous. Townshend says he left it up to the listener to determine whether Jimmy drowned or not. In due respect, I think Pete just didn't know how to end the story. The two albums are both excellent musically.

(51 posts)One of my favorite albums. The touring Who will be in Reno next Saturday (2/2/13). They're supposed to play the whole thing!

(51 posts)Also, I've seen concert footage of this Who group, and, the musical performance didn't come close to the quality of the studio tracks.
When I was leaving the Silver Legacy mid-day yesterday, two couples were talking about the previous night's concert in the elevator. I asked the remaining couple, if they were referring to Styx? They were. I asked if they were Quadrophenia fans? The woman said that her father was going to that evening's concert. This brought home the generation gap!
Btw, how does one use one's own pic as an avatar? When I signed up, I was forced to choose a pic from the provided selection.

(11,833 posts)watch amazing footage of them in their prime on youtube. I love them with Moon and Entwistle.
Not sure how to use one's own pic as an avatar. As you can see, I use a generic one from the provided selection. Maybe ask on another forum her like meta or computers. Hope that helps.

(11,833 posts)from start to finish. I love all the Who albums. This is one of their most accomplished. In addition to those themes, it also gets into the mods versus rockers stuff going on when they were growing up. They were definitely mods, with the vespas, smart clothing, parkas, etc. 5:15, Punk meets the Godfather & Love Reign Over Me are among their best songs. Thanks for sharing this here. I'd never seen it. The feature film of Quadrophenia is fantastic too. Sting plays the bell boy. The lead actor is amazing. Glad they are touring now and playing this entire album from start to finish!

(1,648 posts)I only saw the Who once in Detroit in '71, Moon was truly fabulous, the rest of the Who was very good, but Keith was the best drummer I've ever seen...those were the days.
