I was in basic training, in Orlando, in January and I remember it being very cold and rainy, for most of my training. I developed an awful bronchial infection when they made us take a swimming test in an outdoor pool - I swear there were white caps on the water. Definitely not the type of weather I was anticipating! Fortunately, despite sounding like a rattle trap, every time I drew a breath, I managed to graduate on time. And the weather turned lovely, just before I finished training.

This is below normal for us as well. Normally we're about where you are right now temperature-wise this time of year. We're also going to have two consecutive nights this week with a low of negative 11. I have to work both of those nights, and get out in that stuff for short periods of time.

You really have to be careful and prepare for that kind of weather if you have to be out in it at all.

I know all about dealing with hot and humid temps and how to avoid heat stroke. That kind of cold is just crazy. I'm guessing everyone stays inside? Will a car even start?

I think -23 was the lowest and I'm nearly 80.

I'm not planning on going anywhere. I'm just hoping my furnace can keep up and doesn't give up. It runs nearly all the time.

I just checked the weather and it is now -1 with the sun shining and they say -15 tonight. That's a lot better than -27 if it's true.

Getting ready to go shopping and get covers for my plants. They can handle cold but but not a hard freeze.
