Johnny Cash - "Hurt"

I stumbled across this song after falling down a YouTube hole. I had not heard it in years which is a pity as it is easily one of the best songs released so far this century. The sheer amount of emotion and meaning in these three and a half minutes is immeasurable. The last minute of the video, in particular, is simply magnificent and reverential. The music industry could use a few more legends like Johnny Cash.

Said that the song was no longer his after he heard Cash’s cover. The song is hauntingly beautiful and heartbreaking.

Interestingly, where that was filmed is walking distance from my house at the old “House of Cash” offices. Much of the memorabilia seen in the video is now housed at the Cash Museum in Nashville, including the chair he’s sitting in during the video.

It's so real, so genuine, so sincere.

As a fellow addict (in recovery), this really resonates.

After "Hurt", "BOTW" is gentle, hopeful, redemptive, and incredibly beautiful. It brings the tears every time...
