1. I put a fire in the fireplace, last night, pulled out the sofa-bed and cozied with the cats

I have an insert in the fireplace, so the den was warm and toasty, even after the flames died and the blower shut off. In fact, it's still about 5 degrees warmer than the rest of the house.

That's the plan for tonight, too. THEN it is supposed to be warming up.

7. Love that!!

I think the noise of the fan keeps the cats from dozing directly in front of the fireplace. They tend to perch on the back of the couch, on the other side of the room but directly in the path of the warm air.

2. 4 degrees when we got up this morning

But supposed to be close to 60 next week. Go figure.

3. I'm going to fire up the woodstove in a bit

Going down to -20 tonight. I spent yesterday wrapping pipes in the cellar. I have a big black lab and I took him out three times so far today, the first time he went lame on some chemical salt (I think it was actually from my car - picked up from the road, since I don't put it down). Second time he got too cold after a few feet from the door.

Third time was a charm. Finally, I can take my boots off!
